Thank you to the families of 392 SMS students who have completed registration.

If you still need to complete the process, please take care of this task by Friday, August 2nd. You are welcome to call or stop by the SMS office between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. if you have any questions or need assistance with the process.

Nearly 50% of our incoming sixth grade students have reserved a spot for Warrior Ready Camp, which will be held on Thursday, August 1st and Friday, August 2nd.

If you want your child to participate in this opportunity but haven't notified us yet, please email Ms. Hammons at khammons@scsd2.k12.in.us or call the SMS office at 812-752-8926 by Tuesday, July 30th.

In your message please provide your child's name and the day that he/she will be attending.

Participants will meet some of their teachers/teammates, explore the building, participate in a variety of activities, and learn how to open their locker.

During the Summer Olympics that open in Paris on Friday, Team USA will strive to positively represent our country and will continuously support their teammates.

Similarly, the SMS faculty and staff want to team up with our families and community to create the best possible educational experience for our students by positively representing our district and encouraging each other throughout the school year.

With this goal in mind the "Team SMS" open house is on Monday, August 5th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Parents/guardians and students can drop in during this window to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, gather information about Harmony/Canvas/Eventlink, and prepare for a great 2024-2025 school year.

Please park in the bus/activities lot and enter door #11 for this event.

We are looking forward to welcoming all Scottsburg MS students to the building on Wednesday, August 7th.

Students can be dropped off starting at 7:20 a.m.

Car riders should be dropped off at door #1, which is our main entrance at the office.

Bus riders and walkers enter door #11 at the back of the building.

Students are released from the cafeteria to go to homerooms starting at 7:30 a.m.

School hours are 8:05 a.m. - 2:55 p.m.

Each team creates a supply list, which is available on the SMS webpage.

For those of you who want/need to plan ahead, here are some important dates for the 2024-2025 school year:

August 7th - first day of school

September 2nd - no school

October 14-18 - no school

November 5 - eLearning day

November 11 - no school

November 27-29 - no school

December 23-January 3 - no school

January 20 - no school

February 21 - no school

March 24-28 - no school

May 22 - last day of school

The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some updates for the 2024-2025 school year. Once again, the most significant changes took place in the attendance section.

We encourage you to read the handbook with your child(ren) and to contact us with any questions you may have.

Our fall sports season will soon be underway.

Cross country, football, volleyball, soccer, and boys tennis are the SMS fall sports.

Boys Tennis - Tryouts are Aug 7th and 8th at the SMS tennis courts from 3:00-4:45 p.m.
Cross Country - Practice will start on July 29th at the SMS track from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Co-Ed Soccer - Practice will start on July 29th at the SMS practice field (near the entrance of SMS) from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
6th Grade Volleyball - Tryouts are Aug 7th, 8th, and 9th (attend all three days) in the SMS West Gym from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
7th/8th Grade Volleyball - Tryouts are Aug 7th, 8th, and 9th (attend all three days) in the SMS West Gym from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Fall Cheer (7th and 8th grades only) - A tryout will be held on Aug 8th in the multipurpose room at Central Office from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Football (7th and 8th grades only) - They are currently practicing every Monday through Thursday at SMS from 6:00-8:30 p.m. It is not too late to join!

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about future practices and competitions.

Make sure that your child has his/her physical in order to participate. For all sports (except football) physical forms must be submitted by the first day of school. Football players must have their physical forms turned in by August 5th.

The FinalForms process must also be completed.

Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.
