FOOD DRIVE
Mrs. Papplarardo and her WIN group have taken lead to run a school-wide food drive to support the Open Pantry of Greater Lowell.
If you have never heard about the organization, you can read about them here.
This is a great opportunity for students to help support others in our community. If each student were to bring in only 1 item, we will have over 500 items to stock their shelves.
The Food Drive will run until November 14th. The homeroom that collects the most items will win a Pizza Party after Thanksgiving Break!
Thank you for any support!
Classroom Updates
Math News
Students have also learned about one more type of transformation called a dilation. They are tying into their 7th grade work of scale factors to see how enlarging and reducing figures also affects the coordinates of a figure.
Social Studies
This month, we'll journey through the American Revolution, a pivotal period in U.S. history. We'll explore the causes of tension between the American colonies and Britain, from the Stamp Act to the Boston Tea Party. The Declaration of Independence will take center stage, marking the formal birth of the United States. We'll then delve into the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army, and the Articles of Confederation.
Exploring post-war challenges, we'll discuss the Constitution, the roles of Federalists and Anti-Federalists, and the significance of the Bill of Rights. Together, we'll gain a deeper understanding of the birth of our great nation and its enduring principles.
Science News
Moving forward, we will wrap up this unit and begin learning about chemical reactions more broadly through learning how bath bombs work and why they fizz.
ELA
Students are currently focusing on how various literary elements inform character development.
As a culmination of this work, students will complete their first district-wide Writing about Reading task.
We will finish up our Contemporary Fiction book clubs in November and then move on to Literary Essay writing.
8th Grade Chromebook Policy
The school has been working diligently to make sure all student's have access to a Chromebook. Students use Chromebooks daily in some of their classrooms. It is important that students use the school Chromebooks appropriately and respectfully. The Grade 8 Team has initiated a policy to help support this.
If a student is misusing a school Chromebook during the school day, the computer will be taken away as follows:
1st offense: 24 hours
2nd offense: 48 hours
3rd offense: a week
4th offense: referral to office
If a student loses their Chromebook for a period of time, paper copies for any assignments needed will be supplied.

Cross Curricula Activities
During this past month, students worked on a project that combined skills from Math and ELA. Students completed a graphing activity that resulted in a picture of a cat reading a book. Students then designed the book the cat was holding to match the cover of the book they read during ELA Book Club. They also got the opportunity to write a book review.
Enjoy some pictures below of students working on this activity and some finished projects!
Students really seemed to enjoy this activity! We can't wait to share more cross-curricula activities that we complete in the future!
