From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
We had a great week in the Winter Park Band! It is really encouraging to see the students taking ownership of their performances and striving to be 1% better than the day before. When we all committ, the rising tide truly raises all boats.
Thursday evening was a beautiful night and a wonderful celebration of the Class of 2025 and their 4 years in the SOTW Marching Band. We talked on Thursday about this being one of the "first lasts" this school year, being present and appreciating the moment, and all that has lead up to now. A special thank you to all the parent volunteers lead by Dana Adkinson and Kim Somers who put together pins, photographed & created the senior posters, pressed sashes, coordinated with Senior Parents for pregame photos, and made flower arrangements for the ceremonies Thursday evening. As with every football game, thank you to Laura Cambride and the chaperone team, Ellen DeLoach and the volunteers who served dinner, Jenniffer Randolph & Andrea Rediske and the uniform crew, and Chris Rediske and the operations team for making all things about our game day run smoothly!
We had great time performing with our friends in the bands from Freedom HS, Apopka HS, Horizon HS, Ocoee HS, Dr. Phillips HS, and West Orange HS at WOHS on Saturday for the annual West Side Showcase! It's so special each year to see the bands cheer each other on and appreciate each group's hard work that they put into their shows. Again, a big thank you to all the parent volunteers who fed the students, chaperoned, moved equipment, and overall made Saturday run smoothly!
All-County Auditions are fast approaching. Soon, we will have the final information for signups and be sending home participation agreements. Emails and Talking Points messages will be sent this week. In the meantime, students should be preparing the required music and scales for the audition and practicing their sight reading. See below for links to audition requirements.
Come out to have some spooky season fun this week with Trunk-R-Treat right after rehearsal Tuesday, 10/29! Parents, get your car’s trunk décor planned and grab some candy for a fun, band family event! Trunk-R-Treat will begin around 8 PM after marching band rehearsal and our annual Student Costume Contest.
AT LONG LAST, THE WEEK HAS ARRIVED! We wrap up our journey with BEATLEMANIA at Marching Band MPA THIS Saturday, November 2 at Boone HS. This performance culminates the students' hard work and journey with BEATLEMANIA from Band Camp until now. This is another one of my favorite days of the school year, and I can't wait to see where the show ends up for this performance! SOTW performs at 7:20 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website. Tickets available here: https://teachtix.com/fba8/fba-district-8-marching-mpa-2024. $12 per person, children 12 and under are free. Middle school band students are free with their middle school band's t-shirt.
NEXT WEEK, we celebrate the entirety of our Winter Park Band community at the 10th annual Fall Festival of Bands on Wednesday, 11/6 at 7 PM in the WPHS Auditorium. The evening includes performances by the Audubon Park School Symphonic Band, Glenridge Middle School Symphonic Band, the Maitland Middle School Wind Ensemble, the Winter Park Wind Symphony, combined students from APS, GMS, and MMS along with the Wind Symphony, the SOTW Color Guard, and the SOTW Marching Band to top it all off! It is a night celebrating the entirety of our community, the success of our 6 - 12th grade program, and the bright future of the Sound of the Wildcats. The concert is free and open to the public, as are all our home Band concerts. A complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Schedule Note: SOTW will rehearse Tuesday, 11/5 immediately after school until 4 PM to prepare for the Fall Festival of Bands performance. Students will be indoors in the Auditorium the entire rehearsal, and will need their flip folders. If we cover all material we need to before 4 PM, we will end rehearsal early.
Rescheduled game reminder: According to WPHS administration, the home football game originally scheduled for Thursday, 10/10, and was first rescheduled for Monday, 10/28, is now again rescheduled for Thursday, November 7 at Showalter Field. Please mark your calendars. Since this game is now after Marching Band MPA, we will attend as if it were a playoff game as a full band pep band. Pep Band means that the students will perform in the stands for all 4 quarters of the game and take a halftime break for concessions.
Together, let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

We are almost one week into our Butter Braid fundraiser and we have raised $372 in profit so far.
Get out and sell those Braids! Funds raised go towards your Chicago trip costs and to cover band fees. This is our last fundraiser this calendar year and we will have only one more— Door to Door in February.
These pastries are great for the holidays or anytime and they easily last in the freezer a year before baking. They also make great gifts for neighbors, friends and family.
The sale ends Tuesday, Nov 5! Here is the band link:

Students received a link to their personal store to their email address.

🎶 Hello Band Families! 🎶
What a note-worthy week we've had! 🎺🥁 We’re so proud of our incredible musicians, and a big thank you to our rockstar band families for your support. Y’all are the real headliners! Our volunteers deserve a standing ovation too—we truly couldn’t keep this bandwagon rolling without you! 🎶
Here’s the lineup for this week’s band gig:
🎺 Friday, November 1st: Away Football Game at Olympia HS.
🎷 Saturday, November 2nd: Marching MPA It's Music Performance Assessment! 🎶 We’ll be hosting a uniform volunteer meeting at 2:00 pm in the uniform room so everyone knows the score. You guys make the magic happen, and we want to make sure everyone’s in sync!
🎵 One Last Encore: If your student has long hair, please remember it needs to be off the back of the uniform collar during marching performances. We have hair ties and bobby pins ready to go, but if your student arrives with their hair up and ready to jam, it would be a major help. We love pitching in, but we’re not quite running a backstage hair salon here! 😄💇♀️
Yours in band-tastic style,
Andrea Rediske (andrea.rediske@gmail.com) & Jenniffer Randolph (jenrandolph13@gmail.com)

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
