ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPTIONAL TESTING FOR IDENTIFICATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS
An optional administration of the CogAT for gifted services will be offered on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Maple Dale Elementary School from 9:00-12:00. Please note parents are responsible for transportation to and from testing. Thank you!

You may request that your child be tested on the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT). If you wish to have your child participate in this round of testing, all requests must be made through the below online link by January 3, 2020. If you have a child in 2nd and/or 4th grade, they will take the test during school with their class and do not need to be signed up. For other grade levels, we are offering an optional testing opportunity. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place on Saturday, January 11, at Maple Dale from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm for all four elementary buildings.
Please note it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation to and from Maple Dale on morning of testing.

The 2020-21 school year will not open in Final Forms until January 6th, 2020. Any forms completed prior to January 6th will result in registration for the 2019-20 school year.
Once all forms are complete, follow the instructions to make an appointment online.
*All appointments are made electronically. Links will be added here to make an appointment in January.
*If Final Forms is not complete, your appointment will not be accepted. Lottery deadline for full day kindergarten is February 14th, 2020.
*Full day selection is NOT based on your appointment date.
*All students registered by the deadline will be entered into the lottery if you choose.
A $100 deposit is required at your registration appointment
to be included in the full day lottery.

PTO NEWS & NOTES
Happy December and Happy Holidays Everyone!! The new year and Montgomery’s Circus Carnival will be here before you know it!! We hope you have already marked your calendars, and your entire family plans to join us, for the evening of Friday, January 31, 2020!!! It will be a fun filled night for everyone, but we are not able to do this without an ARMY of volunteers! Please look at the posts below! Sign up to work a shift (or two), donate items to basket raffle or silent auction, ask your employer to consider being a Carnival Sponsor?!? Please sign up for your shift for carnival soon to insure you get your choice of time and/or preferred game!!
We are still accepting donations of NUT FREE candy for our carnival Prizes committee through January 10, 2010! If you have extra Halloween Candy (especially hard candy such as lollipops) please send it to school with your kid(s) or bring them in to the school office where you will find a collection bin!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the next General PTO Meeting on January 15, 2020 at 9:30am!
Come and learn more about the new Ambassadors Program and meet Montgomery’s new chair Zung Handa. Dr Debelak, Cal Roberts, and Assistant Superintendent Karen Naber will be speaking and available for questions!

Remember - this link will not be available or live until MONDAY, Dec. 2. Only one spot per student. Class descriptions are below. Registration closes January 1st.
Step two: You must pay via the Montgomery PTO paypal (Paypal: mtptotreasurer@sycamoreschools.org) or by check made out to Montgomery PTO and placed in the PTO mailbox by Jan. 15).
Once we have received your payment, we will notify you via email with confirmation and instructions on filling out communication forms, snack requirements and on site contact information during class.

Class description: Disappear” for one hour a week for 6-weeks. Learn secrets used by famous magicians. Amaze your family and friends with the magic learned in this fun, exciting & educational magic program. Classes include hands on instruction and personalized training.
Each student will receive a variety of magic tricks to start or add to their own magic collection.

Class Description: Join us for an hour of yoga poses and games, journaling, and a little relaxation time. No prior experience needed. Yoga mats will be provided if needed. Please wear comfortable clothes and be ready to focus your mind and learn some tools to help you feel your best!

Class Description: I.C.I. Studio presents the Art and Design Program for all skill levels. No experience is required! Students will broaden their creative minds and use their imagination to create their own designs through various forms of art. We will have a different theme or project each week to allow students to learn a variety of techniques. Participants will be provided with guided instruction, but will also be given plenty of creative freedom.

Class Description: Ozobot Zone- The amazing Ozobot rolls, spins, zig-zags, dances and flashes a rainbow of colors, all at your command! This cross-curriculum course brings coding and robotics together. Write some code on your computer, and the Ozobot will act it out in front of you! Play fun coding games, challenge other robots to a race, and draw a colorful path for your Ozobot to follow. This pint-sized but powerful robot will be your partner in learning as we gain skills in logic, storytelling, sequencing, and problem-solving. Each student will receive an award on the last day of the session, and will have the opportunity to earn Code Belts to demonstrate their learned skills!

Class Description: Our chefs-in-training will learn how to make delicious and nutritious
recipes using fresh and colorful ingredients. We will travel across the globe to learn about the cuisine and traditions of different countries and master cooking safety, slicing, dicing, chopping, baking, zesting, and more!

International Night will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 from 6:30-8pm. This will be an evening to celebrate the diversity of cultures represented in our student population. The event will consist of cultural booths, food booth, performances, and more. A sign up link to participate will be included in January’s newsletter.
WATER POLO
Here is your chance to become a part of the Water Polo Squadron. Dive on into our Winter Water Polo Camps. You will get a chance to learn the game of water polo with members of the high school Varsity and Junior Varsity program.
This year we have put all 3 groupings on the same day to help those involved in winter and spring sports to get a chance to play.

HELP WANTED
Part Time Job Opportunity
The Sycamore HS PTO is looking for an individual to serve as the store manager and merchandise buyer for the Aves Hangar Bookstore and Spirit Shop, located on the school’s campus, anticipated to begin mid to late January 2020. This is a new position and will replace the role currently held by volunteer managers.
Retail experience and knowledge of sales and marketing principles are necessary. This is a contract position, with an average expected work-load of 20 hours/week. Schedule is somewhat flexible. Incentive opportunities are also available.
