This Sounds Like So Much Fun! Books! Prizes! Trips!
The National Book Foundation is sponsoring a summer reading contest! There are all kinds of great activities to participate in either on your own, with a friend and/or your book club! If you complete all of the activities like listening to an audiobook, reading outdoors, swap a favorite book with a friend and create something inspired by a book you read, for example, you can enter to win a trip to the National Book Awards in New York City! I've printed out copies of the adventure checklist for those of you who are 18 years or older and you can pick one up in the library or click here for more information.

Library Angels!
Did you know that every B block the library is visited by a choir of angels? They have been visiting all year doing library angel things! In the above photo you can see some of them highlighting some great books for summer reads. Maeve is holding When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb that the publisher calls , "...a totally original drama about individual purpose, the fluid nature of identity, and the power of love to change and endure." Aleks is holding Fire Keeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley which was a favorite Young Adult Diverse Books Book pick. Grace is holding Angeline Boulley's most recent book Warrior Girl Unearthed which the publisher's note states, "Old rivalries, sister secrets, and botched heists cannot - will not - stop her from uncovering the mystery before the ancestors and missing women are lost forever." And, Caroline is holding Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge that the publisher's note explains it was "Inspired by the life of one of the first Black female doctors in the United States" that is "...an unforgettable and immersive novel that will resonate with readers eager to understand our present through a deep, moving, and lyrical dive into our past."
Please stop by the library to pick out your summer reads!
Vermont Library Association Conference
Vermont Library Association Conference
Last week, I presented at the Vermont Library Association Conference at the Killington Grand Hotel. This year's theme was "Libraries Empowering Communities: Standing Together in Uncertain Times." My presentation was on the grant I received from the Vermont Humanities Council for the project "The Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club Takes Last Night at the Telegraph Club to Boston." Public librarians, school librarians and the Director of the Vermont Humanities Council and the Programming Coordinator for the Vermont Humanities Council attended. Attendees were interested in learning more about how I select the books for the club (diverse books by diverse authors), how the club meetings and intergenerational book club take place during ARE time and they loved hearing the direct quotes from the students who went on the trip. My presentation is attached below if you'd like to see it.
