Director's Thoughts... π
Greetings Edmond Fine Arts Educators and Administrators:
Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop states, βChildren need windows and mirrors. They need mirrors in which they see themselves and windows through which they see the worldβ.
When we first receive our students, they look at us as a mirror. Reflecting the light that we provide to assist in their development as young artists. As they mature, that mirror transforms into a window, allowing them to shine their own light into a world that needs their brilliance.
How are you reflecting the message of your classroom to your students? How do you encourage your students to shine their light into the world around them?
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
The arts are ALIVE and WELL in Edmond Public Schools!

Oklahoma Education Awards for Arts Excellence π
The Oklahoma State Department of Education is pleased to join with the Oklahoma Alliance for Arts Education, the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Arts Council for the 34th Annual Oklahoma Education Awards for Arts Excellence. It is important to recognize outstanding school board members, school administrators, and fine arts educators for their leadership and support of quality arts education and academic excellence in Oklahoma schools. In addition, we recognize and honor selected juniors and seniors who have excelled in their art forms (voice, instrumental, piano, dance, drama/theatre, and visual art).
The Award application will be open from February 1-March 1, 2025. In advance of the application window, interested students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to review the application guidance information sheet. Applications will be adjudicated in March, and all applicants will be notified of their status (awarded or not awarded) by March 31.
The 2025 Awards Ceremony will be held on April 22, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Guthrie Scottish Rite Masonic Center (900 E Oklahoma Ave, Guthrie, OK 73044)

deadCenter Film Education is excited to announce the launch of the Statewide Education Tour across Oklahoma! This program offers students opportunities to explore the growing film and multimedia industry, with tailored presentations to fit each school's unique focus. The film industry presents a wide range of career paths, and both the presentation and the May film camp are completely free. The camp provides students from rural areas the chance to create a short film, with housing and meals covered during their stay. Learn more at deadcenterfilm.org.
deadCenter would love to come to your classroom to explore the fundamentals of filmmaking, film festival culture, and work in the film sector. Most presentations are for one class period, but appearances can be customized to meet individual school needs. Activities include the following:

Fundamental Film Literacy
Career Opportunities in the Oklahoma Film Industry

OKC Broadway - Kelli O'Hara Awards πΏ
The Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall and OKC Broadway are excited to announce the return of the Kelli O'Hara Awards for the 2024-25 school year! This is a free program for high schools in the Central and Western Regions of the state that recognizes excellence in Oklahoma high school musical theatre. The program honors outstanding students and teachers dedicated to the performing arts in schools. The winners for Best Actress and Actor will receive professional training and compete in the National High School Theatre Awards, showcasing their talents to a national audience.
The Awards have created three new categories for student recognition this year:
- Student Reporter Search β highlights the importance of journalism, film and other related departments.
- Outstanding Student Design β celebrating the young aspiring designers and artists. Submitting a piece to be considered for the 2024/2025 Kelli OβHara Awards t-shirt design.
- Stagecraft Award of Excellence β welcomes students involved in technical aspects of productions to submit their work.
Please contact Matthew Herdman (kelliawards@okcbroadway.com) for more information about the Awards.
