Cordata Elementary School
June 2020 Newsletter
Hello, Cordata Families!
Welcome to June! It’s hard to believe that we are a just few weeks away from summer vacation. While I know this academic year did not play out as we all had planned, I hope that our Bobcat family is doing well, and thinking ahead with excitement for next year! Our last day of school will be Thursday, June 18.
This month’s newsletter is packed with important information, so please take time to check it out! While we don’t have answers just yet about how things will look in the fall, Bellingham Public Schools has a great team of people working on a plan to keep us all safe and learning! Please do check the district website occasionally over the summer for more information, and watch your email for messages from Dr. Baker or me.
As the school year draws to a close, I want to thank all of you for a great first year as principal of Cordata. I have enjoyed working with you and your wonderful, talented, students. I look forward to my second year as principal, and continuing our work to build a robust family organization at Cordata!
Have a wonderful summer, and I’m excited to see everyone soon!
Go Bobcats! 😊

Dear families,
Many of you have asked about promotion to the next year’s grade and what will happen at the end of the school year regarding next year. We have been working on this as a district and it has been decided that all elementary and middle school students will be promoted to the next year’s grade level following the end of this school year. You can read more about this in Dr. Baker’s May 20 message found [Message%20for%20School%20Newsletters%20/%20Family%20Message]here.
To the extent possible for each student and family, the continued expectation is for students to stay engage in learning activities through the end of the school year. We look forward to continuing to support learning and connection, and realize that within this current circumstance of the extended school closure learning opportunities may be impacted and slowed down. While we do not yet know what the fall will look like, our plan is to be ready to meet your child in their learning and help them thrive! Please continue to take part in the learning activities posted by your child’s teachers and other learning that you are taking part in in your homes.
For more information about the end of year reporting please refer to the Engagement and Grading Guidelines during COVID-19 School Closure section of our district website. Thank you for all you are doing to support your child and their learning during this time.
