Fun at Notre Dame
Viewing the Sun in Astronomy 15
This semester, the Astronomy 15 class had an amazing session with the Kerry Wood Nature Centre! They demonstrated the vast size difference between the Sun and Earth using a soccer ball and a pinhead, and they even explored the enormous distance between them with a hallway-sized model! Outside, they viewed the Sun through a giant telescope with a special filter, plus welding goggles and eclipse glasses. They wrapped up by learning how to safely use a standard telescope to project the Sun onto paper—where we even spotted some sunspots! #Astronomy #SunSpots #STEM #ScienceExploration #SolarSystem
