Patriot's Pointe
Greetings Patriot Families,
This is our last week of instruction headed into first semester final exams which will begin next week. All parents should have received an email with information regarding a student's exemption status based on attendance. Parents please remember that a student cannot combine an attendance exemption with an academic exemption. Students will need to select one exemption pathway and declare their decision via Infinite Campus by tomorrow, December 9, 2024. Our final exam schedule is featured further down in this newsletter for your review.
The SCHS Counseling department did a phenomenal job with our Scholarship Application contest! Congratulations to Madison Kendrich for winning this contest as she applied to over 25 scholarships during the month of November and will be rewarded with a college readiness gift basket. Our Key Club utilized their platform to spread some holiday cheer to the residents at The Oaks senior living center last week. Thank you to Ms. Carroll and the students in Key Club who made this event possible.
Please come out this week to support our Fine Arts students in the annual Winter Fest where you will be entertained by our Band, Orchestra, Chorus, and Drama students. Additionally, there will be a host of vendors on hand to help you find that special holiday gift for friends, family, and our teachers!
Senior Dalen Penson declared that he will take his post secondary opportunity with Georgia Tech in the Fall. We are so proud of Dalen and all that he has accomplished! Congratulations to Coach Murphy and the SCHS Wrestling team for earning 2nd Place overall in the meet held at Whitewater High School. Coach Nickerson and the Varsity Basketball team won in a thrilling victory on Saturday against Langston Hughes High School. Our Varsity girls basketball team came up 5pts. short but look very strong for early season play. All sports schedules and games for this week can be found in the Athletics section of our newsletter.
We are excited to support our students in their academic endeavors while providing them with a Competitive Advantage!

Fall Semester Exam Exemptions
Students can only have 5 or less unexcused absences to remain eligible for exam exemptions based on attendance. Attendance Matters!
Final Exam FAQs
What if a student needs to take an exam on a different day?
Ms. Oliver, our school principal, must approve deviations from the exam schedule and make-up exams. Students are not allowed to take exams before exam week. Variations are usually only authorized if you are sick.
Can a student leave after finishing an exam?
Parents should have completed the Exam Exemption Form via Infinite Campus between December 11th - 13th. If they approve, you may arrive or leave ONLY during the transition between exams. If a parent did not complete the Exam Exemption Form in Infinite Campus or if parents did not approve early leave, parents will need to check out students at the front office.
What happens if a student doesn't show up for an exam?
- The student will receive a “MISSING,” a zero. The student’s counselor will contact the student to reschedule, but if the student does not complete the exam during the week of December 17th, the student will receive an “INCOMPLETE.”

Free College Essay Help with Notable Narratives!
About Notable Narratives:
NN is a 501 (c)(3) college essay service organization that provides completely free college essay editing services to first generation and/or low income (FGLI) high school seniors applying to college. We do this by pairing college applicants with FGLI college students, as having an advisor that comes from a similar background will allow students to feel more comfortable receiving help
Since our founding in August 2020:
Our 90 FGLI college advisors have assisted over 1,750 students from 102 unique countries and all 50 states.
1 in 4 students who filled out our annual survey were accepted into an Ivy League or Stanford University.
94% of our students were BIPOC, and 50% identified as both first-generation and low-income.
We encourage you to read more about our impact through our Impact Report, website, and Instagram. We are excited to help even more students this year!
Next Steps:
Attached is a Registration Form for you to share with your students. NN’s services are available to those who self-identify as low income and/or first generation; students do not need to identify as both to apply. I will also be sending this resource to the SCHS counselors.

Parent Square
The Campus Parent portal is your source for student and family records, including household and individual contact information, attendance, school-based fees, academic planning (high school), forms, and report cards. The Parent portal also provides access to the GaDOE SLDS Portal. Please set up the parent Infinite Campus account first. The same username will be shared with Schoology to set up your parent account in Schoology. Because each login reflects the person associated with the username, it is recommended that a separate account is created for each parent.
- Usernames can be comprised of letters, numbers, the underscore, and dash.
- Please refrain from creating a username that is all numbers, as that will interfere with student data here in our district.
- After completing the setup of your parent portal account, please allow 24 hours for your new account information to be sent to Schoology before attempting to log into your Schoology parent account.
