General Information
Staff Appreciation Week is May 6th-10th
Staff Appreciation Week is this week!! While we always encourage scholars to write their staff a note or card of appreciation, we are also promoting a "Stock the Eatery" campaign this year. Families and scholars can bring in items for the Staff Eatery to thank staff and get them through the last month of school!! We will have scholars collecting items in the drop off line as well as have a cart available in the lobby for scholars to drop off items at.
Personal Notes for Staff Appreciation
Personal notes of appreciation mean the WORLD to staff!! While we encourage individuals to write a note or card of appreciation, we also wanted to provide an opportunity to do this electronically. Submitted messages will be printed and distributed to staff throughout the week. It's extremely easy!!
All you have to do is click this LINK. You will be asked to submit the staff member's name and write a sentence or two thanking them or telling them how they had a positive impact on you or one thing you appreciate about them!!
Example:
- Mr. Jones--Thank you for always giving second chances. I have learned a lot from you and will try to not get in any more trouble.
- Ms. Rodriguez-You have helped me learn to love science. Thank you for making it so fun!!
Feel free to add your name (optional) or leave it as anonymous!!
You can submit the form as many times as you want. Think about ALL the staff at TLA that have had a positive impact on you or your scholar and submit responses!!!
School Breakfast & Lunch Information
Parent Leadership Council (PLC)
A general reminder that PLC offers an opportunity to all families where they can engage with TLA's leadership team beyond classroom level involvement. These meetings are always scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month from 8:00-9:15 in the Library.
The next meeting will be held on May 21st. We look forward to seeing you there!!
Last Day for Library Books-May 16th
The last day to check out library books will be Thursday, May 16th. All books are due back by the end of the day on Thursday, May 23rd. Any book not returned by Thursday, May 30th will be marked as lost and a fine will be assessed in Skyward. There are no fines for overdue books, only lost ones. Please return books on time and let Mrs. Anderson know if you have any questions.
Spirit Day Dress Expectations
Tops: Scholars may wear any TLA Spiritwear top or TLA provided t-shirt.
Bottoms: Scholars may wear TLA sweatpants (sold at Wright World Sports), non-sweat pant joggers, jeans or knee length shorts/skirts in school colors (blue, black, or gray). The expectation of no leggings and rip-free bottoms still applies.
Announcements
Parking Lot and Drop Off Expectations
- TLA families and scholars should not be parking in the angled spots or locations with green painted lines near Associated Bank or in their parking lot
- When dropping off scholars, please be mindful of your speed, the crosswalks and traffic flow pattern through the parking lot/drop off area.
- Scholar drop off should be directly in front of TLA or by the stop sign entering the TLA parking lot. Scholars should not be dropped off on the Associated Bank side as it is unsafe to cross there due to turning traffic.
HERE is a link to the TLA Route map if you'd like to reference it again.
School Carnival Volunteers Needed
Our End of Year Carnival is scheduled for June 5th in the morning. If there are parents willing to volunteer to help supervise some of the games/food stations, it would be extremely helpful!! We have the following shift times: 7:30-8:30 (set up), 8:30-10:10, 10:15-Noon, and 12-1:00 (cleanup). There are a variety of games/food stations that we need support with so if you are interested in helping, please reach out to Ms. Riddle (tavi.riddle@tlabeloit.com) or Mrs. Gile (janae.gile@tlabeloit.com)!!
New Uniform Ordering Process & Vendors
All families received an email this week but as a general reminder, TLA has a uniform policy to promote unity, develop a sense of community and school spirit, decrease potential peer pressure, and keep clothing costs affordable.
New this year! Vendor-specific embroidered logo cardigans for scholars will be available and uniform compliant!! Please note that if wearing a cardigan, a TLA uniform polo must be worn underneath. Please click here to view the 2024-2025 Uniform Dress Code.
Pants, Shorts, and Skorts: Must be purchased from French Toast. Your purchases from French Toast will be mailed directly to you. Note: Uniform pants (only pants) may be purchased from another source if needed; however, they must look like the uniform pants provided by French Toast (same style and material). Walmart carries a brand called Wonder Nation that is acceptable.
Physical Education (required for 6th - 12th Grade): Must be purchased from Walnut Creek. You may purchase online or in person at Walnut Creek, 408 East Grand Avenue, Beloit. Purchases made from Walnut Creek may be mailed directly to you or picked up in the store.
Polos, Sweatshirts, and Cardigans: Must be purchased online from HALO. Orders placed from May 1, 2024, through July 28, 2024, will be delivered to the school in August, and you will be contacted when your order is ready to be picked up at the school. The HALO store is now open and will CLOSE on July 28, 2024. Please ensure you have ordered your uniform tops for the 2024-2025 school year by July 28, 2024, as the school will no longer be accepting uniform top orders.
As a reminder, different colored TLA uniform tops represent specific grade levels of scholars. You may need to purchase different colored uniform tops for your scholar for the 2024-2025 school year.
K4 through 5th Grade wear Royal Blue
6th through 8th Grade wear Gray
9th through 12th Grade wear Black
We strongly encourage you to order your uniform tops early before the July 28, 2024, HALO ordering deadline. We anticipate this new ordering process will be a much more efficient experience in the distribution of uniforms.
If you have any questions about uniform ordering, please feel free to contact our Special Projects Manager, Jean Marie McKearn at jeanmarie.mckearn@tlabeloit.com.

Attendance Corner
TLA Attendance Update & Competition
As we enter the home stretch in this last month of school, we’ll share out each week where we are as a school with our attendance percentage goal. There is no change from last week, but we are very close to reaching our 95% attendance goal. These last days/weeks of school are just as important as the beginning of the year (and every other school day!), and each scholar’s presence at school is important in making this happen!
Also, as a reminder, our May attendance competition kicked off on Wednesday, in which the homeroom with the most days of 100% scholar attendance will earn a pizza party at the end of the month. We had 96% of our scholars present on May 1st! Let’s keep that momentum going!
Athletics
In this week’s athletic news:
Congratulations to the JV baseball team on their hard-fought win against the Deerfield Demons. Despite being down 0-5 early in the innings, the Lions battled back and secured an 8-6 victory. The team delivered many great performances with stand-out displays from Diego Santana-Batista who scored two RBI’s and Carson Pingel who recorded thirteen strikeouts and three runs. Well done, Lions!

Work Permits
Below are the requirements for the employment of minors:
A work permit is required before anyone under the age of 16 is allowed to work in any job with the exception of agriculture or domestic service work.
Employers must have a work permit on file for the minor being employed before they may allow the minor to begin work.
16 and 17 year-old minors do NOT need to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work.
A work permit is not required to apply for a job. It is required before starting to work. Scholars should apply for a job, interview, and then once the job is offered the parent should apply for a work permit. The employer should provide reimbursement for the cost of the work permit.
Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders
A group of young TLA ladies participated in Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders this year! In preparation for the event they participated in etiquette lessons and attended guest speakers. They had the chance to attend a shopping event to have an outfit purchased for them. Last week they attended the dinner where they networked with female leaders in our community.
This summer TLA boys will have the same opportunity to participate in a similar event. Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders: Inspiring young men to embrace their futures is a summer program for men in 5-10th grade. Scholars will be required to complete five speaker sessions before attending the event on August 22, 2024. All sessions will take place at the Joel Barrett Boys and Girls Club. Sign up here.
