MARCH NEWSLETTER
WEEK 9 MARCH 3 - MARCH 7
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello, DMHS Parents and Families,
I have a couple of announcements and updates for this upcoming week.
New Phone Free Policy Update
We started implementing our new Phone Free School Policy on February 18. Our first week with the policy seems to have started off smoothly. In that week, we had 37 students who had to pouch. 51% of the pouching was during or in the periods after lunch. Only five students have had two infractions and will have to pouch for 5 days. After the first incident, there is always follow-up conversation with the student and a notification call to the parent. Parents have all been incredibly supportive.
Here are the numbers for how many students have had to pouch their phones during the week:
Tuesday February 18 - 12 students
Wednesday February 19 - 11 students
Thursday February 20 - 13 students
Friday February- 7 students
Total = 37 students or 4.5% of our population
The students are doing great with this new policy and we are very proud of them for adapting to this big change.
Ms. McGee, our college Counselor, will be having a FAFSA workshop for parents/guardians of 12th graders on Saturday, March 1st in the College Center from 9AM - 12PM.
I need you to complete the School Experience Survey for our school. Only one parent or guardian per household. Right now, we are at 2%. Other schools are way ahead of us! At DMHS, we can let that happen. We need to be in the top 1%, just like everything else. The survey can be found in Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish and Tagalog besides English. In section Type choose: High Schools our school name appears as: DBM (8738). Log into: https://www.lausd.org/TakeTheSES to complete the survey.
How do results from the School Experience Survey impact DMHS?
Ms. Martinez-Gertner will present on the importance of completing the School Experience Survey. How this data is used to identify areas for improvement in our school and also let us know which services we could still continue to provide in the future. Once the presentation is over we will help our families complete the School Experience Survey.
The presentations are as follow:
Wednesday, March 5 at 9 AM in the Parent Center
Wednesday, March 19 at 9 AM in the Parent Center
Stay safe, and see you all soon.
