The Wayne-Westland Wrap Up - May 2025
Dear Wayne-Westland Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re in the final stretch of the 2024-2025 school year! With just one month to go, our schools are full of enthusiasm as students prepare for important milestones, special events, and year-end celebrations.
One of the highlights is our high school graduation ceremony, which will occur on Saturday, May 31, at Eastern Michigan University. We are incredibly proud of our seniors from John Glenn High School, Wayne Memorial High School and Wayne-Westland Innovative Academy, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements with their families and friends.
The last day of school for students is Wednesday, June 11. While summer is typically a time to unwind, we’re pleased to offer various summer enrichment and learning opportunities for students of all ages. Check out the programs featured in this newsletter and take advantage of these great experiences.
In these final weeks, our students and staff are working hard to finish the year strong. Thank you for your engagement and collaboration throughout the school year. We wish you and your family a happy, safe, and relaxing summer.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Curry
Interim Superintendent

Cultural and Diversity Fair
A Vibrant Celebration of Culture and Community
The annual Cultural and Diversity Festival, held on May 1, was a tremendous success, drawing more than 500 attendees from across the community. Guests enjoyed an exciting lineup of performances that highlighted traditions from around the world, including Dabke dancing, bagpipes, folkloric music, and African drums and dance.
A heartfelt thank you to our Multilingual Department for organizing this event, and to the talented Culinary Arts students from the William D. Ford Career-Technical Center for providing essential support. Their dedication helped make this celebration of culture and unity one to remember.
Salmon Release
Students from Graham and Schweitzer Elementary Schools and John Glenn High School gathered at Goudy Park in Wayne to celebrate the culmination of the DNR Salmon in the Classroom Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit, a collaboration between Wayne-Westland Community Schools, the STEM Center, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Throughout the school year, students have been raising salmon from eggs in their classrooms, observing their growth, and learning about ecosystems, responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Releasing the salmon into the wild was the last step of this exciting, hands-on learning experience.
