LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - TOMORROW
DISMISSAL AT NOON!
Letter From Principal Caplinger
As we close out this school year, I want to thank you for another great year! It was the fastest, most rewarding year I've had yet. Collaborating with you to build a school that is dedicated to children is a rewarding job! Thank you for sharing your children with me and working beside me this school year.
Thank you to all of you who volunteered time this school year. We could not do this without all of our parent volunteers! A big thank you to all of our substitutes who helped fill in for classes this school year. We certainly appreciate all of you! We would like to thank the PTA members and the PTA Executive Board for the time and effort they have contributed to providing the students and staff with the resources necessary for quality programs for the students. We recognize these are volunteer positions, and we could not do it without you!
We would like to say goodbye to our awesome fifth graders. The fifth-grade students were a delight this year, and we wish them the very best in middle school. We are excited to celebrate with you next week! I am confident they will rise to every challenge they will face, just as they have this school year. To our families who will not be returning next school year, we wish you all the best and we will certainly miss you.
Finally, we would like to say goodbye to our staff members who will be parting to do other things next school year. Coach Ycaza will be leaving us to be closer to home in Melissa to teach PE in the district where his wife teaches and his daughters go to school. Lauren Unthank will be working with Amplify part time and looking forward to substituting and serving on the PTA. Natalie Myers will also be substituting next school year, and Risha Frederick will be pursuing other opportunities. We also want to congratulate Coach Lazarine on his retirement. A big thank you to Cassidy Lovejoy for filling in as a long term substitute for us this year in first grade! All of these staff members will be greatly missed!
I want to thank you for the wonderful students you send to us each day. Thank you for trusting in us to provide the best education for your children. It's an honor to serve as the principal of Hughston Elementary.
Jennifer Caplinger
Dismissal
Thank you for your patience during yesterday’s dismissal. We were carefully monitoring the weather leading up to dismissing the students. At dismissal time, there was no hail or lightning within a 20-mile radius, and parents were under cover at the front of the building waiting to pick up students. We know there is always room for improvement and we will carefully look at our procedures when it does rain. For example, dismissing both fourth and fifth grade students at an alternative location so they are under cover, just as we do for other students.
Before the start of the school year we will send out a survey to see if an afternoon carpool lane would be of interest instead of walking up to pick up the students. Implementation of a carpool lane just for Rainy Day Dismissal is too chaotic for a last-minute change, and this is not something that we can put in place immediately.
Just a reminder that if at any time you do not want your child to not walk home, please be sure you call the front office to make that change before dismissal begins. We are happy to hold your student in the office. We are thankful that last year we only had one heavy rainstorm during dismissal and this year just one. However, when this occurs, we want to revisit our procedures to ensure the safety of our students and families.
