Lanoka Harbor School Newsletter

Dear Lanoka Families,
It is hard to believe that another school year is coming to a close and that we will soon be saying farewell to our 5th graders. We had amazing concerts, plays, shows, and other exciting events this year. Our staff and students enjoyed class trips, field days, grade-level fun days, and many end-of-the-year celebrations.
As we move through these last few weeks of the school year, remember that we are better together, that every day is an opportunity for growth, and that every day is a blessing.
The Power is Always in The PRIDE!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Brewer, Ed.D., LHS Principal
Theresa Kilmurray, LHS Supervisor

**Please check with your child's provider, vaccines can be given without a well visit scheduled**
EARTH DAY - ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION
On May 12th, Lanoka Harbor School celebrated Arbor Day/Earth Day. It was a beautiful day to honor our retirees, 3rd-grade teacher Mrs. Cook, and Para-professional Mrs. Speer. A tree was dedicated to honor these special staff members during the celebration. The tree will help remind us of their years of service and the many lives they have touched. The children sang and the recorder club performed special songs for the event.
In celebration of this special day, students were given an opportunity to participate in a poster contest. The national theme for this year’s contest was "Our Power, Our Planet". Students’ posters were asked to reflect on helping our earth through the use of renewable energy sources. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were chosen from each grade level. The 1st place winners shared their posters at the ceremony. Congratulations to the following winners:
MUSIC FILLS THE AIR
Under the direction of Mrs. Meelheim and Mrs. Gauthier, 5th-grade band students from Lanoka Harbor School, combined with students from Cedar Creek School and Forked River School, put on a wonderful band concert that family and friends enjoyed on May 22nd. Their outstanding performance shows how much hard work, practice, and dedication pay off!
HONORS BAND
On Saturday, May 4th four students from Lanoka Harbor Elementary School participated in the South Jersey Band and Orchestra Directors Association's Elementary Honors Band Festival. Anastasia Otten, Ryann Riker, Grace Nicholson, and Janie Atkins prepared music ahead of time, rehearsed, and participated in concert with the most accomplished young musicians from 4th through 6th grade in Southern New Jersey. The concert was fun and rewarding and is a preview of great musical moments to come from these four students. We are so proud of all their hard work - CONGRATULATIONS!
MATH LEAGUE
We are proud of each one of you that participated this year!
STEAM Week!
During the last week of May, our students were busy studying and researching many STEAM (Science - Technology - Engineering - Art - Math) topics. Throughout their studies, our students designed many beautiful projects. These projects were displayed for all to enjoy. On Wednesday, May 28th families were invited to the STEAM night to enjoy the student displays and participate in exciting activities!
The PTO also coordinated for the students a STEAM Museum program that turned Lanoka's MP room into a state-of-the-art, hands-on children’s museum focused on STEAM education. Stations students experienced included robots, virtual reality, 3D printing, art, engineering, and more! This program was held during the day for all students, and during our evening event for families that registered to attend.
It was a wonderful experience for our students. A great big thank you to the PTO and all of the parent volunteers who assisted.
LANOKA HARBOR PTO
As another incredible year at Lanoka Harbor School comes to a close, the PTO would like to take a moment to say THANK YOU! Without our members, parents and amazing staff, we would not have been able to pull off the Color Run, Winter Workshop, Gift Auction, Book Fair, Staff Appreciation and more! Your help and generosity does not go unnoticed.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on events and ways to sign up for next year! We hope our Lanoka families have a safe and relaxing summer break!
