Welcome back and Happy New Year Pawnee Families!

I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing Winter break and happy

to get back to our normal daily schedules. I know I am happy and ready

to be back at school with our Pawnee Cubs. A New Year means new goals.

My goal for the rest of the school year is to let families know what their Pawnee

Cub will be learning when I come into each classroom every week. I am fortunate enough

to teach a Social Emotional Lesson to each classroom every week. Each month, I will let

January 6-10: All classes will review our Pawnee 3 B’s (Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful).

January 13-16th: This week students are learning how to be kind and helpful at school and in the community. Ask your child to share ways that they are kind and helpful at home.

January 17-24th: This week students are learning about safe and unsafe behaviors and setting boundaries. Ask your student what a boundary is and share your own personal boundaries.

January 27-31st: This week students are learning about the difference between safe and unsafe touches. Practice saying "Please stop I don't like that" and seeking help from a safe adult.

Del 13 al 16 de enero: Esta semana los estudiantes están aprendiendo a ser amables y serviciales en la escuela y en la comunidad. Pídale a su hijo que comparta las formas en que es amable y servicial en casa.

Del 17 al 24 de enero: Esta semana los estudiantes están aprendiendo sobre comportamientos seguros e inseguros y estableciendo límites. Pregúntele a su estudiante qué es un límite y comparta sus propios límites personales.

Del 27-31 de enero: Esta semana los estudiantes están aprendiendo sobre la diferencia entre toques seguros e inseguros. Practique decir "Por favor, para, no me gusta eso" y buscar ayuda de un adulto seguro.

• Echo reading = an I Do – You Do technique, child listens to you and follow along in a text before they echo what they heard
• Repeated reading = child practices rereading a familiar sentence or passage
• Phrased reading = reading smoothly by grouping words from a sentence into meaningful chunks
• Audio assisted reading =child reads along and track the text while listening to an audio version
• Readers’ theatre = a collaborative strategy in which you and your child rehearse and read parts in a script; no memorization required

Each student’s iPad has the student handbook preloaded on it (it is also available on our website), which provides detailed information about the policies and regulations of Pawnee Elementary School and the Omaha Public Schools. Teachers and students will spend time in class reviewing the code of conduct and our school procedures and routines. Students will be instructed to take the handbook home. Please be sure to read and discuss the handbook. The students will be responsible for all content in the student handbook and parents will sign a handbook card stating they understand the expectations. School-Parent Compact

Pawnee Elementary School

This Title I School-Parent Compact has been jointly developed with parents and outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high academic standards. At the annual parent-teacher conferences, the compact shall be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

Administrator/Teacher:

It is important that students achieve. We will:

1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment to enable children to meet the challenging state academic achievement standards.
2. Regularly communicate with parents on their child’s progress.
3. Demonstrate professional behavior and positive attitude.

Parent /Caring Adult:

I want my child to achieve; therefor I will encourage him/her by doing the following:

1. Communicate and work with teachers and school staff on an ongoing basis to be involved and support my child’s learning.
2. Support my child’s learning—volunteer in their classroom; participate, as appropriate, in decisions related to their education, guide positive use of extracurricular time.
3. Make sure my child is at school every day and on time, unless he/she is ill.
4. Provide a quiet place and time to do schoolwork and encourage my child to complete schoolwork.

Student:

I know my education is important to me. It is important that I work to the best of my ability. I agree to do the following:

1. Be at school every day and on time ready to learn unless I am sick.
2. Come to school each day prepared with supplies and an attitude to learn.
