Important Information and Action Items for Advisors
Hardship Withdrawals
- I wanted to send out a brief reminder that Student Care and Outreach (SCO) is now processing hardship withdrawals for fall 2019 up until the midpoint of spring 2020. If you have a student who had a hardship last semester, please send them to SCO to discuss it.
Contributions to Honor Ed Harris
- Mike is collecting contributions in honor of Ed Harris who passed away over the holidays. Contributions will go to AthFest Educates in honor of Ed’s enduring love for music. Donations can be sent to Mike via Venmo or Paypal (Michael.merva@gmail.com), or cash can be dropped off at his office.

Spring 2020 Global Certificate Classes
- The Office of Global Engagement will have several T&D sessions this spring that count for the Global Certificate! Our first session is about the UGA at Oxford and UGA Cortona international centers!
- Visit the Training & Development website to register for classes. (These courses are part of the Global Certificate Program).
UGA Mentor Program and SAGE
- The UGA Mentor Program Tracking Item has been enabled in SAGE. The referral is labeled “UGA Mentor Program” and it prompts an email to the student.
- The UGA Mentor Program connects current University of Georgia Students to UGA Alumni. Students are able to enter information about themselves in a profile and alumnae are able to do the same. Then this system will match them, and they can begin communicating to find their best fit.
- See the attached calendar for addition information about the UGA Mentor Program.
UGA Marketing, Publicity, and Branding Resources for Projects
The Division of Marketing & Communications website has been updated and that site, along with brand.uga.edu, contains a number of important links to communications resources for your use.
- University Collateral: contains downloadable pdfs that you can print or email including a campus map, one-page overviews for our each of our schools and colleges, and Powerpoint slides with “About UGA” information that can be used for conference presentation openers.
- Media Training for Faculty: has a schedule of two-hour workshops offered throughout the year to prepare faculty to work with journalists.
- Office Templates: provides templated business documents including Powerpoint templates.
- Email Signature Builder: outlines the policy and guidelines for faculty and staff email signatures along with an app to create your official email signature.
- Social Media Policies and Guidelines: contains policies and best practices to keep in mind when using social media.
- Social Media Account Directory: contains a list of UGA-affiliated social media accounts in an A-Z index.
- Trademark Usage: provides information about access to University of Georgia trademarks.
- Trademark Compliance Review and Approval: houses the forms needed to request approval for usage of university trademarks.
- Localist Calendar App: allows you to submit an event to appear on the university’s master calendar. Additional information about the calendar is available here.

Course Information
AAEC 2710 - Food Fights: Analysis of Global Food Policy Issues, Spring 2020
This course is a great option for anyone who needs a to fill the university’s social science requirement (Area V) or a general elective. It’s sure to be a fun, lively class with lots of debate and not much lecturing. Also, there are no tests or exams!
Bulletin Description: Exploration of issues in the global food system through the lens of social science analysis. The course will follow a case study approach. Each case study will introduce a basic policy issue and present economic and social trade-offs for students to analyze. Example cases include: Is fair trade really more fair? Would cutting back food waste reduce world hunger? Should we use food to fuel our cars? Is agriculture a climate change victim or perpetrator?

Information for Students
Stillpoint Literary Magazine is now accepting print submissions for publication in their 50th annual print edition!
They accept prose, poetry, music, and visual art submissions from undergraduate students, graduate students, and all members of the community. The deadline for all submissions is February 20th. Submissions are accepted through this form
All submission reviews are blind.

Founders Week 2020
T-Shirt Giveaway, Monday, January 13 at 10:00am to 3:00pm, Herty Field
A T-shirt giveaway for all UGA students by the Student Alumni Association, in celebration of Founders Week 2020.
UGA Birthday Bash, Thursday, January 16 at 10:00am to 3:00pm, Tate Student Center, Tate Plaza
Everyone is invited to this birthday bash for UGA. There will be food, giveaways, and so much more in Tate Plaza to celebrate the university. This event is presented by the Student Alumni Association.
New Student Resource Fair, Tuesday, January 14 at 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Tate Student Center, Grand Hall
At the UGA New Student Resource Fair, different schools and colleges along with academic departments are on hand to help students get to know their new home. Students enjoy music and food, pick up a few giveaways and win prizes, and leave with loads of information.
This event is open to all incoming students and is intended to complement events provided by programs and colleges.
