The River Hawk
Rio Norte News - October 11, 2024
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
We hope all of our River Hawks enjoyed their day off this past Monday and that some used the extra time wisely to catch up on any missing work. The first quarter ends this Friday and some teachers already had their cut-off for late work yesterday. Others will have it early to mid this week. Please be sure your student emails their teacher if they are unsure whether they can still turn in late or missing work prior to Friday.
Today Rio Norte held Pink Out Day in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Enjoy a few pictures of our students and staff getting in the spirit! Big thanks to ASB for planning and Yearbook for another incredible photo backdrop!
If you have an 8th grader interested in attending Academy of the Canyons (AOC) for high school, please be sure to read about the mandatory meeting below. Also 8th graders have one last chance to purchase the 8th grade hoodie, so be sure to check those details, too!
While this coming week brings the Great Shake Out for the state of California, we will be holding our Disaster Drill the following week on Thursday, October 24th so as to not be disruptive to the end of quarter tests and grades.

Socktober Drive
Our ASB is running a sock drive from October 14-25th to help local organizations in our own community. We will be donating to Bridge to Home, Family Promise, and the Santa Clarita Winter Shelter. We are collecting new socks from infant to adult sizes. ASB representatives will be at the front gate each morning to accept socks. Please have your student drop off the socks with those representatives in their team's box. The team that collects the most socks will earn a cookie party.
Rio Norte Night at Valencia High School Football Game
Save the date! On October 25th Valencia High School invites the Rio Norte community to their football game. Students will be granted free entry IF they have their Rio Norte ID to present at the gate.

Hart District Culture of Safety and Wellness Meeting
The Hart District has committed to seeking the input of the community on an annual basis. We invite Hart District students, staff, and parents to join us for our annual discussion: A Culture of Safety and Wellness in the Hart District on October 15, from 6:30pm-8:00pm, at the La Mesa Junior High School Multipurpose Room, 26623 May Way, Santa Clarita.
At this meeting, District staff will share information on the many components that contribute to safety and wellness, access and equity, and communication and collaboration on our campuses as outlined in our Strategic Plan. Participants will be invited to provide feedback and suggestions in four key areas:
- Physical Safety and Communication
- Culture and Climate
- Mental Health and Wellness Supports
- Student Perspective
The feedback from this discussion will inform our efforts to enhance and improve our planning and help us determine how to allocate resources.
Hart District Attendance Challenge
Attendance Matters.
Regular attendance is key to student success. When students are in class, they can actively engage in learning, participate in class discussions, and build important social skills.
Attendance Challenges:
To encourage and celebrate consistent attendance, we're introducing attendance challenges. These challenges offer exciting prizes, sponsored by local businesses, and encourage good habits.
First Challenge: October 8-31
Students with perfect attendance (no tardies) can enter a drawing to win AirPods.
*Learning Post Academy will explore alternative attendance recognition options for independent study students. More details coming soon.
Let's Work Together:
We believe this challenge will not only motivate students to come to school every day but also foster a sense of community and teamwork among our students. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we'll create a positive learning environment for all students.
