Title 1 Math News
Dear Parents,
The Knob Noster School District is pleased to continue the building-wide Title I Math Program this year at both Knob Noster and Whiteman Elementary Schools. This means that we are receiving federal funds to provide additional math instruction and materials to benefit our students.
I am the Title I Math teacher in both elementary schools. I am at Knob Noster in room 52 on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays and at Whiteman on Tuesdays and Thursdays in room C9. I will provide small group instruction for students who need help mastering specific math skills as identified by our math benchmark assessments. Students will be selected for this program based on common assessments, classroom performance, and referrals by the classroom teacher, parent, or data team. Due to a limited number of slots in the program, students with the greatest need will be given priority in the selection process.
I will provide 25-40 minutes of small group instruction in my classroom 2-3 times per week, based on individual student needs. Small group size will be limited to six to eight students in order to provide these individuals with more focused instruction. Pull out times will be carefully scheduled to benefit students.
The goals of the Title I Math instructional program are:
to bring student math skills up to grade level by providing skills-based instruction.
to help students experience increased success in the regular classroom setting.
to increase confidence and develop a positive attitude toward math by providing students with opportunities for success.
to partner with and support parents in our program.
I am currently assembling the data from our assessments and forming my groups. I will be sending a letter home with your children to let you know if I will be serving them. I am excited about the upcoming school year, and I look forward to working with you! Together we make a great team! Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or other needs. I can be reached at KNE 660-563-3019 (x2152) on M, W, F, or at WE 660-563-3028 (x4309) on T, TH.
Sincerely,
Ms. Lisa Closen – Title I Math

PTO EVENTS/FLYERS
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love
for reading:
Set the example. Let children see you read.
Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up
with changing tastes and reading skills.
Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books
to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: September 25-29
Shopping hours: M-Thurs 8-3, Friday 8-12
Special activities: Book Bingo, September 28, 5-7pm
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit Whiteman Elementary.

School Planner/Agenda
The Whiteman Elementary Student Planner was designed to assist your child in organizing his/her daily, weekly and long-term assignments. We hope this planner will improve your child's organizational skills. In addition, we feel that the planner will serve as a communication tool for teachers and parents. At Whiteman we take pride in our relationship with parents, and see you as a partner in the important job of educating the children of this community.
If your child is in 1st-4th grade and does not have a planner yet , you can send in $3.00 with your child or come into the main office to purchase one.
Title 1 Preschool Parents
Early Childhood Parents:
Friday, September 15, 2017, is homecoming and the Knob Noster School District is dismissing students at 1:00 p.m. To ensure our staff and students have an opportunity to prepare for and attend the parade we will not hold our p.m. sessions for Title I Preschool or for the Early Childhood Special Education program. Our a.m. session for these programs will be held and run on the usual schedule. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Whiteman Elementary Office, talk to your child’s teacher or contact me at 660-563-5597. I hope you can make it out to the parade and other festivities to support our Knob Noster Panthers.
