Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ May 17, 2019
From Mrs. Wohlfiel, Interim Principal
Happy Friday!
I must start with recognizing our SBS PTO “Travel Agency” for their wonderful week of food and gifts for our staff during teacher and staff appreciation week! From the decorations throughout the school, to the Italian soda, delicious treats, raffle items, gracious gift boxes and Qdoba lunch, their efforts were much appreciated! Thanks to ALL who assisted with the week - whether you donated, cooked, prepared, decorated, were a room parent, or organized the event - “Captain” Tana Swedberg and her “First Officer” Becky Pautsch and her family - your dedication to our school is beyond words! Thank you all! (Please see the complete list below.)
A shout out to James Norcross who participated in a writing competition at the Wisconsin Association of School Councils convention on May 5, 2019. James earned a gold rating for his essay answering the questions “What ‘Building blocks’ make a Good Student Council”! His conclusion states “by helping new ideas come to life and keeping teams together, both listening and cooperation are key ‘building blocks’ for a council, a team and most importantly, life.” Well stated - way to go James!
This week our kindergarten through fifth grade students entertained our community with songs of “Home” under the direction of Mr. Nick Ktorides. It was great seeing a packed house yesterday afternoon and hearing the voices of our students fill the commons!
Next week Thursday, May 23, is our first Stone Bank Fine Arts Night! The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes a night of celebrating the artistic talents of our students. Artwork will be on display along with interactive art-making activities, and more as coordinated by Ms. Kym Richardson! Beginning at 7 p.m. the middle school band and chorus will perform under the direction of Mr. Jon Lovas and Mr. Nick Ktorides. We hope to see you all there!
Next week is also our SBS PTO first Color Run on May 22. Funds raised from this event will go to a new play structure for middle school students that could also be used by our physical education staff. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
Other events scheduled for next week include the May School Board meeting on Monday, May 20, the PTO meeting on Tuesday, May 21.
Please mark your calendars that Friday, June 7 will be a FULL DAY of school. This is necessary to make up the rest of the instructional minutes for the day we had off because of the well malfunction.
I want to thank the families who are dropping off the students in the morning in a manner that is keeping everyone safe. If I could, I’d like to encourage everyone to be patient (the word of the day Monday) and stay in the right lane when pulling forward and avoid crossing over into the left lane when pulling away.
As has been the case, please know you are welcome to contact me for any concern you may have.
Thank you to everyone for all of the ways you support our learners at Stone Bank.
Thank you to all volunteers who assisted with teacher and staff appreciation week:

School Supplies
Time to order your school supplies for next year. This helps you save time and money when you're doing your back-to-school shopping. For those of you who ordered last year, you may notice a slight price increase, this is mainly due to ordering high quality, name brand products, like Crayola and Kleenex. Also, this year, there will be several items that will be optional to add to your supply box, such as calculators, headphones, earbuds, locks, and supply cases, for those who already have these items or would like to purchase these items elsewhere. As always, please double check your school supply list and order everything you need, as some items are add-on items. The EPI boxes will contain most everything your child will need, but you will need to supply some things on your own, such as backpacks and gym shoes.
Order deadline is June 16, see attached flyer.
To order online:
- Go to the EPI website
- Enter our school code: STO173
- Supply boxes will be delivered directly to school in August.
3rd Annual SBS Fest
On Wednesday, June 5th, we will celebrate the end of another successful school year with our 3rd Annual SBS Fest!
Mission Statement: A fun Stone Bank event that promotes unity, builds community and celebrates the completion of the school year.
SBS Fest will be an event where students travel with their team to activity stations including Field Day Games, Relay/Olympic Games, Indoor Carnival and Outdoor Carnival. Students will need to bring a snack, a water bottle and cold lunch (labeled with student name) or order one through school.
We are looking for 5K-7th grade parent volunteers to help with the day’s activities. Please use this link to sign-up.
We will also be seeking donations/usage of sport wagons, 5-gallon water dispensers, and shade tents for the day.
SBS Student Council will sell tickets for carnival games and crafts.
We are excited about SBS Fest and look forward to celebrating with the whole SBS community! Please keep an eye out for more information.

SBS Has Talent
Does your student participate in activities outside of Stone Bank School? Does he or she show skills or talent in that area?
We would LOVE to have pictures of our SBS students participating in their areas of talent. Our yearbook includes pictures of student clubs, school sponsored sports and competitions, but we’d like to highlight additional areas of talent that our students have.
We are building a bulletin board collage that shows students exhibiting/participating in their non-school activities.
Please send in a picture of your student (no larger than 5x7) so that we can place it on our Stone Bank has TALENT board in the commons. Pictures should be sent to the office in an envelope labeled Student Council/Sra. Hoffman. If you would like your picture back be sure to label your student’s name and homeroom teacher on the back of the photo.
Watch for the photo display on the bulletin boards in the commons. We hope to have them completed before the Spring Concert and Art Walk.
Thanks,
Student Council and Gifted and Talented
Thank You
Thank you to all who contributed to the collection organized by the middle school room parents last winter and also to those who contributed to the Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week Scrip collection. Each middle school and specials teacher was surprised with a generous amount to spend on Scrip gift cards of their choice!
Thank you for helping to make our teachers feel special!
Sincerely,
Middle School Room Parents
