The BIS French Consulate is thrilled to share with you the exciting experiences our students had during the recent trip organized to Pondicherry. This journey was an exceptional opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in French culture, history, and language. Here are some highlights from the trip:

1. Visiting the French Consulate:

The trip kicked off with an insightful visit to the French Consulate in Pondicherry. Our students had a unique chance to learn about the functioning and essential role of the French Embassy and consulates in India. This visit offered them a glimpse into the diplomatic relations between France and India and deepened their understanding of international cooperation.

2. Matrimandir - The Golden Globe Temple: The next stop was the enchanting Matrimandir, a breathtaking golden globe temple known for its spiritual significance.

Our students not only marveled at the architectural beauty of the structure but also enjoyed a captivating guided tour conducted entirely in French.

It was an enriching experience that enhanced their language skills and cultural awareness.

3. Torchlight Walk - Storming the Bastille Prison: On the evening of July 13th, our students participated in a symbolic Torchlight Walk to commemorate the storming of the Bastille Prison. This event holds immense historical importance in French history and represents the beginning of the French Revolution. Our students embraced the spirit of unity and liberation, making it an unforgettable experience.

4. Bastille Day at the War Memorial: July 14th, known as Bastille Day, is a significant French national holiday. Our students paid their respects to the fallen soldiers by visiting the War Memorial in Pondicherry. They engaged with war veterans and learned about their sacrifices, fostering a sense of gratitude and patriotism.

5. Bastille Day Fireworks at the French Consulate Beachside:The evening of July 14th was filled with joy and celebration as our students witnessed spectacular fireworks at the French Consulate by the beachside. BODHI Fest 2023 saw a gala of events where 8 of the best schools from North West Rajasthan competed in various Literary, Art, and Commerce based activities. The bonding and camaraderie between students were developed through games and fun activities during their stay on campus. Bodhians carried the winning trophy by etching their presence in various activities.

Bodhi International School hosted Inter School Bodhi Fest during the month of July. We played the role of hosts as well as fellow competitors for local as well as regional institutions. The art department organized the mural competition for senior school teams. Students of grades 9-12 represented their individual schools in teams of 3-6 participants for this competition.

The intention of Cambridge is to create lifelong learners by providing different platforms to showcase their talents. BVenture was an activity in Bodhi Fest that gave learners more exposure to showcase their talent and learn new things which will be helpful to them in the future. Judges gave their input to the learners to make things work in a fruitful manner.

A mural is a painting, drawing, or other work of art executed directly on a wall, ceiling, or other large permanent surface. A distinguishing characteristic of murals is that they are often intended to convey a specific message or mood, rather than simply to decorate the interiors of buildings. They range in size, subject matter, and style, but all murals have one thing in common: they are a reflection of the artist’s thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

The purpose of this year’s inter-school art contest was to provide information on the importance of inclusion for all students and the value of diversity and opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of these concepts and values through art. Each team (up to 6 participants per team) created their own mural depicting the theme ‘The Time for Inclusion is NOW’ on a piece of plywood (4x8 feet). This mural project was initiated to promote inclusive education, encourage collaboration, and integrate the arts.

Renowned stage artist Mr. Nemichand interacted with the student community about the importance of learning our native tongue during Bodhi Fest, 2023.

An assembly was conducted on 04/07/2023 in which Class 8B students through their scintillating performances highlighted the issue of Climate change and its relation with Mental Health. The PowerPoint presentation addressed 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder', a condition due to sudden loss of life, jobs, injuries, and displacement of people, due to natural disasters.

A thought-provoking Nukkad Natak was conducted in which students through their convincing performances were able to stir the emotion of empathy in the context of mental health.

As a blueprint for a better future, students also discussed United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The assembly culminated with an outstanding energetic musical band performance which instilled a ray of hope in everyone's heart through the message, that with joint efforts we can win over any challenge in life, be it personal or global.

The crucial role that effective self-expression plays in personal and academic development can’t be undermined. With this in mind, for their English Holiday Homework, learners of grade 6 were assigned a task to create a journal on either one of the following topics -

Overall, the endeavor to cultivate a culture of creative self-expression among their students was effectively accomplished.

The English Department is thrilled to share another exciting teaching approach employed during a recent lesson on the parts of a story. With a keen focus on enhancing student engagement and understanding, the English teacher introduced a captivating twist to the curriculum, utilizing an Indian movie as an educational tool.

The Approach in Brief:

Before delving into the movie experience, students were introduced to the essential components of a story, including the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution, with the help of Freytag’s Pyramid. This solid foundation served as a launchpad for the enriching cinematic journey that followed.

The Movie Selection:

Carefully chosen for its thematic relevance and age-appropriate content, the movie ‘Bahubali: The Beginning’ showcased an extraordinary narrative and compelling storytelling that resonated with our students.

Guided Viewing and Post-Movie Analysis:

Since this movie had been watched by all the learners of the class, a quick and brief recap of the story was shown in the class. The teacher had furnished various task sheets based on ‘Parts of a Story’. These exercises encouraged critical thinking and robust discussions on key story elements and character development. The class led a comprehensive analysis of the movie's plot structure, character arcs, and underlying themes.

Learners had the freedom to select their own movies to fill the task sheets.

Learning Outcomes and Feedback:

This unique teaching approach yielded numerous benefits, including heightened student engagement, increased cultural awareness, and real-world application of storytelling principles. Through active discussions and analysis, students honed their critical thinking skills and retained information more effectively.

Feedback from our bright young minds indicated that they thoroughly enjoyed the movie-based approach. Many students praised how the incorporation of audiovisual media made the learning experience more enjoyable and memorable.

During summer break, Grade 7 English Advanced students were given a news paper template BODHI TIMES. They were told to share their reflection after reading the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Firstly, the students listened to the audio book, then read the paperbook and answered the questions given in the newspaper template.

Crossword puzzle, word search exercise, quoting the best dialogues etc were some of the tasks assigned. Students produced excellent work post their summer break. Corrections were suggested to those required.

The second one is 'Coorg' by Lokesh Abrol. It is a story about Coorg, a place in Karnataka. The author describes the weather, environment, people, wildlife, and the landscape of Coorg in this story.

The last one is 'Tea from Assam' by Arup Kumar Datta. This story is about two friends exploring the tea gardens of Assam and also learning the legends behind them.

The Department of Art and Design has implemented Cambridge Lower Secondary Art and Design Curriculum for all middle school students. The curriculum has been modified to incorporate Indian art, architecture, and cultural elements.

The Cambridge Lower Secondary Art & Design curriculum framework supports an open, flexible, and non-linear approach to teaching and learning. In Art & Design, teaching and learning should provide repeated – and limitless – freedom, choice, and opportunity to use and experiment with media, materials, and techniques. The fundamental stages of the artistic process can and should take place in any order. Learners should not feel constrained by the content of the units. Instead, they are encouraged to use the suggested activities as a starting point and to explore and make the best use of available media, materials, and resources.

Experience is a fundamental aspect of the artist process. In Art & Design, learners are always encouraged to focus on the ongoing experience of tools, equipment, media, materials, and processes and are motivated to ask themselves questions about their use of resources in order that they can make informed choices about their future work.

1. Maintaining Visual Journals

Visual journals, or sketchbooks, are a central part of the artistic journey. Learners are required to use their visual journals to experiment and record thoughts, ideas, and reflections as they develop.

2. Warm-Up Activities

Quick warm-up activities are utilized at the start of the lesson to loosen up the hands and to encourage creative flow.

Students of grade 6 were introduced to the concept of colour theory during the month of July. The reintroduction of a basic colour wheel was essential at this point to reinforce learners’ knowledge of colour theory. It is important that learners know and understand the basic facts about primary and secondary colours before moving on to tertiary colours and mixing tones of colours. A short activity was conducted to ensure that all learners were starting from the same point. Learners were encouraged to use alternative media such as oil pastels or coloured pencils by layering the colours over each other.

The term 'still life' describes a work of art that shows inanimate objects from the natural or man-made world, such as fruit, flowers, dead game, and/or vessels like baskets or bowls. A still life depicts things that are 'still' and don’t move. Still life is a genre that spans art history. It is found everywhere from ancient Egyptian tombs—decorated with paintings of objects from daily life—to works of modern art where it provided opportunities to experiment with new techniques, forms, and styles. The genre became particularly popular in the Netherlands during the 17th century when urbanisation led to a greater emphasis on the home, personal possessions, and commerce.

The still-life project was introduced as a continuation of colour theory to grade 6. It is a useful and good experience for learners to participate in the setting-up of still life as they become aware of composition and they feel more connected to the work. Learners were encouraged to place fruits and vegetables keeping colour theory concepts of complementary colour schemes, analogous colour schemes, split complementary colour schemes etc.

This exercise helps develop confidence in decision-making and provides a framework for how to develop ideas through observation.

Perspective Drawing is a technique used to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane. Art students were made familiar with perspective as an element of art and design. The notion of one and two-point perspectives was presented to the grade 7 art class. Students were motivated to draw basic linear perspective sketches in their journals and later convert them into built environments.

The intent was to encourage learners to experiment and explore freely with perspective drawings and color mixing. They recorded their thoughts and observations in their visual journals.

In this lab activity, Grade 11 students conducted several food tests to identify the presence of specific macromolecules in various food samples. The tests included starch test, reducing and non-reducing sugar test, protein test, and lipid test. Through these tests, they gained a better understanding of the composition of different foods and their nutritional characteristics. Understanding the presence and quantity of these macromolecules is crucial in evaluating the nutritional value of food items and making informed dietary choices.

An electrifying atmosphere of celebration filled every nook and cranny of our beloved school as our young learners gathered to partake in a lively and educational event on the occasion of Bastille Day! Organized by the fantastic French department, this event proved to be an enthralling journey into the heart of France's captivating history, and it was all done in the spirit of fun and interactivity!

The school premises were transformed into a vibrant and colorful extravaganza, adorned with thematic decorations, period costumes, and captivating visual elements that transported our children straight into the revolutionary era of France. It was a sight to behold!

The heart and soul of the event were the interactive activities that allowed our curious learners to immerse themselves completely in French history. Kudos to our talented young speakers, Rishabh and Swara from Grades 4 and 5, who confidently introduced the day's festivities entirely in French! Quel talent!

Speaking of quizzes, Rishabh further engaged the audience with a brain-teasing quiz on French greetings and terms. Our little geniuses never cease to amaze us!

The early-year students stole the show as they sang the melodious 'Bonjour mes amis' and got everyone grooving to the rhythm. The energy was infectious, and parents, teachers, and students alike couldn't resist joining in the dance!

Anandalekshmi and Preksha delighted everyone with their tricky quiz about French signs that have completely opposite meanings in English. Who knew language could be so mischievous?

But that's not all! Our talented dancers showcased their moves to the beats of 'Laissez-moi tranquille' a French song infused with Indian rhythms. The stage was set ablaze, and even the most reluctant feet couldn't help but dance!

The special assembly was truly a linguistic immersion for our students, as the thought of the day, news, and prayer were all delivered in French. It provided them with a wonderful opportunity to improve their speaking and listening skills, and our young linguists truly impressed us!

As the assembly drew to a close, the heartwarming and soul-stirring Bodhi anthem echoed through the halls, sung by our spirited students in French. The pride in their voices was palpable!

The lively Bastille Day event at BIS was an undeniable success, where learning and fun merged seamlessly. Our children departed with hearts full of joyous memories, and, most importantly, a deeper understanding of France's history.

Brainstorming is a group problem-solving method that involves the spontaneous contribution of creative ideas and solutions. This technique requires intensive, freewheeling discussion in which every member of the group is encouraged to think aloud and suggest as many ideas as possible based on their diverse knowledge. This blue box question works like magic in class.

Often, students are not able to recognize the gaps in their own knowledge. But when they learn with their peers, they can see new processes for answering questions and coming up with creative, collaborative solutions. Importantly, they will carry these new perspectives, as well as a willingness to seek and accept feedback, with them as they progress in their education.

We are applying Brainstorming and also peer learning in middle school. The result is amazing as the learners who are not willing to write, they are able to relate and logically respond to the challenging questions. Time-bound questions, this has been a great practice to prepare them for exams.

Last but not least the classroom corner “Math Lab” - To my surprise simply changing the classroom brightens up the mood of learners toward Math.

Using Code.org, our students have been diligently working on innovative projects, creating impressive apps that showcase their creativity and problem-solving abilities. Some of the fascinating applications they are developing include a photo liker application, ticket generator application, a watermelon squeezer application etc.

The Code.org platform has proven to be a fantastic tool for our students, allowing them to bring their ideas to life. This platform empowers our students to design, develop, and test their apps all within one user-friendly environment.

Economics at BIS is studied via practicing active learning strategies which include Peer Learning and Discussion of recent Case Studies of current Economic Issues as per the IGCSE Curriculum.

Learners of Grade 9 IGCSE have recently begun to understand the application of Microeconomic Concepts which is evident with daily practices and tests taken up by the facilitator in a conducive Classroom scenario.

In IGCSE Business, the learners were intrigued by the concept of Organisational Management of different Organisations and hence, escalated their learning to a higher level by exploring and diving deeper into their School’s Organisational Structure and making the same using their own creativity.

Safe Circle- A 'safety circle' is made up of all the safe relationships that children and young people have with their family, friends, teachers, coaches, and other important people in their lives. Children introspect and draw their safe circle (people whom they feel safe with)

Happiness Week- Happy memories last longer in children. Blossoms children shared some of their happy memories by drawing various things that make them happy.

English Week was an exciting celebration in school that aimed to promote the English language, literature, and various aspects of English culture. It provided a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to come together and engage in fun and educational learning engagements centered around the English language.

Balanced meal:

Thrilled to share nutrition education sessions with our young learners! In our efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle, we taught about the importance of a balanced diet and the food pyramid.

Learners grasped the concept of a balanced diet effortlessly. They now understand that a balanced meal consists of grains, which provide essential carbohydrates for energy; vegetables and fruits, packed with vital minerals and vitamins; dairy products, ensuring strong bones and teeth; and proteins from meat, fish, and eggs, which are essential for growth and development. By teaching the learners about the significance of a balanced diet, we are nurturing habits that will last a lifetime. We believe that empowering them with this knowledge will lay a solid foundation for their physical and mental well-being.

Learners for their enthusiasm and eagerness to embrace a healthier lifestyle. They will continue to make informed food choices, not only within our school premises but also in their daily lives.

Students performed on stage and showcased their talent by presenting dance, sharing about the day's importance, and conducting quizzes grade-wise. Students also presented bookmarks with moral quotes spreading happiness and joy.

Theme - Kargil Diwas and Nature Conservation Day

We are excited to share the highlights of our Grade 2 hosted assembly that took place recently. Our young stars took the stage to honor Kargil Diwas and celebrate Nature Conservation Day.

The students performed a skit. Through this performance, they showcased their talent while educating their peers about ways to conserve nature. Students of grade 2 shared facts about Kargil Diwas and conducted a quiz for general awareness.

Through such assemblies, we hope to instill empathy and responsibility in our students and encourage them to be mindful of our history and the environment. We believe that these experiences will shape them into compassionate and environmentally conscious individuals.

English Week - Students of grade 3 celebrated English Language Week where they were provided with an opportunity to participate in an array of engaging activities. The idea behind the initiative was to help the students explore their proficiency in the language and sharpen their skills. During the week, a variety of activities were conducted, such as whispering-doors, spellathon, rhyme-time, grammar hunt, and author’s PIE. These activities helped to bring out the unique qualities of each child in a special way and encouraged them to appreciate the language.

Critical Thinking Skills: Critical thinking skills nurtures creativity by encouraging students to explore different ideas and perspectives. It allows them to break away from conventional thinking routines and come up with original and imaginative solutions. For the summative assessment of 'Sharing the Planet' learners designed their imaginary animal with unique animal adaptations to help it survive in its biome.

Perspective- Learners explored uniqueness and perspective, fostering an appreciation for individuality and diverse viewpoints. They presented their imagination through visual arts. Learners enjoyed sharing their artwork which also gave a glimpse of their liking and personal experience. This activity emphasized the importance of considering multiple perspectives and keeping an open mind.

English Week- To enhance vocabulary and enrich language skills, English Week was celebrated where the young budding artists were given an impetus to write poems, quotes, and thoughts. It led to the advancement of knowledge among the student agencies and prod the students to think creatively.

Passing the Parcel- Students learned different tongue twisters in a play way activity, to enhance their reading and speaking skills.

JAM session- A JAM session was conducted to instigate students to develop and enhance their thinking skills and boost their confidence and enrich their speaking skills.

English Week- English Week was celebrated with enthusiasm. Teachers arranged different activities for each day throughout the week which were fun as well as full of learning.

Quote it:- Students wrote beautiful quotes on happiness and created their wall of Happy quotes.

Tongue twisters:- Students enjoyed repeating difficult tongue twisters. They took it as a challenge and performed exceedingly well.

Spellathon:- Students competed in 2 rounds of Spellathon. They were challenged and they faced the challenge successfully.

Musical Review:- A twist to the normal musical chair was planned where every child had one challenging question in their pockets which was useful once they were out. It was a fun activity and the kids enjoyed it a lot.

Overall, English week was successful and also helped to develop a deeper interest in the language.

Gurupurnima Assembly- Students celebrated Guru Purnima and understood its importance through a special assembly conducted by them. Students recited shlokas and motivational thoughts of Swami Vivekananda. They organized a quiz related to famous National gurus and great Leaders. There was a special dance performance by ‘Stuti Poddar' which allured everyone.

Inquiry Day- Inquiry-based learning is a unique approach that encourages students to become active learners and critical thinkers. Rather than simply memorizing facts, they engage in asking questions, investigating, and finding answers through exploration and research. In order to showcase their learning and potential, Grade 5 celebrated their Inquiry day on 29th July 23.

It started with a short prayer and thought to invoke God’s blessings.

Students brainstormed about how inquiry is carried out in their classes and how concepts are revealed through different activities and play-way methods.in connection to that, there were different engagements for parents like-Needs and wants activity, Toffee activity, and Kahoot game.

Special attention was the KBB (Kaun Banega Businessman), where parents were asked questions based on different market strategies, demand and supply, etc.

Students also showcased their shark tank projects in which they explained their business proposal to sell their products or goods. Knowledge of Robotics and STEAM education put feathers on their cap. Students made a gaming app and involved parents to play a game with them to check its working.

Last but not the least, the school band and orchestra ruled the show. The Inquiry day was concluded with a fabulous dance performance and vote of thanks.
