This last week we found out that we have recieved the Purple Star Campus Desigantion! WE are so very excited! Please check out the press release below for more information about this honor! We have a large military connected population and are very proud of each of our families and their service to our nation!

On that note, October is almost here and November is just around the corner. It is time to start rummaging through veteran pictures! Each veterans day we have a wonderful ceremony at VRES and do a slide show to recognize the many veterans in our school community familes! So VRES families start looking for military pictures of yourselves or family members. I will share a list soon of all that we already have from last year!

This next week we will kick off our APEX Roadrunner Dash PTO fundraiser. You will see more information very soon!! Our Raodunner Dash Event day will be October 10th- make plans to come and maybe even volunteer to help! On that note, there are a couple opportunities below for you guys to join some Boerne ISD committees. Take a look!

Boerne Independent School District is proud to announce that Cibolo Creek Elementary and Van Raub Elementary Schools have been awarded the prestigious Purple Star Campus Designation by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.

This distinct honor recognizes schools that go above and beyond to support militaryconnected students and their families, reflecting an unwavering commitment to those who serve our nation. The Purple Star Campus Designation, created by the Texas Legislature, celebrates Texas public schools that have demonstrated excellence in meeting the unique needs of military-connected families. The application process for the designation involved meeting several key criteria, including: • Designating a campus-based military liaison.

• Creating and maintaining a web page that provides crucial resources for militaryconnected students and their families.

• Implementing a robust campus transition program.

• Conducting professional development for staff focused on the challenges and needs of military families.

• Demonstrating active participation in initiatives such as Month of the Military Child or partnerships with military school liaison officers.

A total of 541 campuses across Texas were recognized for their commitment to these initiatives, a remarkable 202% increase from last year’s designations, showcasing the growing dedication of Texas schools in supporting military families. “Supporting military-connected students and families is at the heart of our mission," said Dr. Kristin Craft, Superintendent of Boerne ISD. "We are incredibly proud of Cibolo Creek and Van Raub Elementary Schools for receiving the Purple Star Campus Designation. Their commitment to fostering a supportive environment for military families is a shining example of our district's core values." Both campuses will retain the Purple Star Campus designation through the 2025-2026 school year, underscoring their ongoing commitment to serving the unique needs of military-connected students.

Our teachers have the opportunity to nominate students for doing fantastic things on our campus. These nominations can be for academic or character-related greatness. We believe in promoting positive character traits, student success, and of course, most importantly being a good human! A few of the many traits that we promote are kindness, empathy, perseverance, leadership, service, responsibility, compassion, honesty, and treating your neighbor the way you would want to be treated. It is great to celebrate our students each morning. We are blessed that Van Raub has so many amazing kiddos to rave about!

It's about that time to run the obstacles of the Van Raub Roadrunner Dash. Be on the look out for information coming soon. The fundraiser will kick of September 30 - October 11, with the Obstacle race on October 10th. Be on the look out for more information, and a Sign Up Genius to help during that day.

Roadrunner Dash - Dash Day volunteer spots

The Roadrunner Dash Day is October 10th! We love having our parents come and watch their kids run the dash, and volunteer too! We need 18 volunteers per grade level. If you want to watch your child, you may want to volunteer or a different grade level.

Bulverde Pumpkin Patch Spirit Day - October 11

Bulverde Pumpkin Patch is hosting a Van Raub Spirit Day on October 11th. You can purchase your entry for $20/car. If you're headed out of town for Fall break, you can still purchase admission online on the 11th and attend later in the month. Bulverde Pumpkin Patch is donating back to Van Raub PTO for any paid admission. Please see the flyer attached.

Running club (grades 3-5) will be on Wednesdays from 3:00-3:45 starting October 16th. The students will be picked up at the bus loop. Sign up link:

Please complete this form if your child is interested in being in Kindness Counts club this year. We will meet on the 1st Monday of each month, from October through April (excluding January) from 3:10-3:50 at the library. Our first meeting will be held on Monday, October 7th.

The VRES Roadrunner Choir! We will meet on Monday afternoons from 3:00pm to 3:45pm in the VRES music room. Our first rehearsal will be on Monday, September 30, 2024. Fourth and fifth grade students who are interested in participating in this performing group will need to plan a ride home for this first rehearsal. Pick up will be in the Dietz Elkhorn car Loop. Choir will meet regularly throughout the year. We will have a busy schedule singing in the Boerne/San Antonio area.

District funds are not budgeted for Choir since this is an extra-curricular activity. The total expense for choir will be $35 for the year.

National Anthem @ San Antonio SPURS game Vs Pelicans: Saturday Mar 15th 7:30pm Frost Bank Center. (you will have to order tickets to this game for your singer and anyone else to attend. Limit 50 singers so it will be first come, first *Sing*)

All-District Elementary Choir invitational: TBD April, 6pm Champion HS auditorium

Roadrunner Choir Spring Concert: May 1st, 6pm VRES Cafeteria
