Lion Family Newsletter
January 2025
Dear Lion Families,
Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating holiday season. The start of a new year brings a sense of renewal and possibility, and I am excited about all the opportunities this semester holds for our students.
With the second half of the school year upon us, it is a great time to reflect on our shared goals and reset our expectations. At Lamar Middle School, we remain committed to fostering a learning environment where every student is challenged to learn at high levels, achieves personal growth, and is equipped with the skills needed to be successful.
As we return to our routines, I want to highlight a few key expectations that help us maintain a positive and productive school environment:
- Attendance Matters: Consistent attendance is essential for academic success. Please ensure your student is present and on time each day. If challenges arise, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.
- Effort and Growth: The second semester is an opportunity to build on the progress made in the fall. Encourage your student to set personal goals, stay organized, and seek support when needed.
- Respect and Responsibility: Our community thrives when we treat one another with kindness and take responsibility for our actions. Let’s continue to create a culture of respect and collaboration.
We are grateful for the partnership of our families and the dedication of our staff as we work together to ensure every student’s success. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, achievement, and memorable experiences for our Lamar Lion community.
Thank you for your continued support, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Here’s to a fantastic second semester!
Warm regards,
Eric Ogle
Lamar Middle School Principal

Looking Ahead - Important Update: Clear Backpacks for the 2025-2026 School Year
Lamar Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you of an important change we will be implementing at our school beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year. Starting next school year, all students will be required to use clear, see-through backpacks.
This decision was made to enhance the safety and security of our campus. Clear backpacks allow for quicker and more effective visual inspections, helping us maintain a safe environment for all students and staff. Similar policies have been adopted in schools nationwide with positive results, ensuring everyone can focus on learning in a secure setting.
We are sharing this information well in advance to allow families ample time to prepare and purchase clear backpacks before the new school year begins. Clear backpacks are widely available at many retailers, both in-store and online.
Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated as we take this step to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Thank you for your understanding and partnership.
Sincerely,
Eric Ogle, Principal
Parent & Family Compact
Important Information
Clothes Closet
We currently have a limited amount of uniform shirts and uniform pants in the Clothes Closet and we will use those items for emergency situations. Going forward, if your child is out of dress code they will receive a 1 hour detention.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Parents should only utilize the drop-off and pick-up lanes to drop their students off and/or pick them up. Both parking lots are unavailable for student drop-off or pick-up as this is a safety concern for our staff and students. Additionally, please note that the drop-off and pick-up lanes are moving lanes and therefore parking in the drop off lane is prohibited. Thank you for keeping #OURKIDS safe.
