Silence Can Be Golden
"It is not caring about suffering that drains us. It is feeling incapable of making a difference. The best cure for feeling helpless is being helpful. Even if you can’t make people feel better, you can make them feel seen. The most basic act of compassion is acknowledging distress, not assuaging it." ~ Adam Grant
It's usually not our words that comfort others as much as our presence. If you feel the need to speak into someone's suffering, make sure that it is from the Holy Spirit and not your own anxiety or discomfort.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3 ESV
Winter Heals
"In Winder, rocks are pursed up from the ground in the farmer’s field because of the frost/thaw cycle of the earth. Farmers don’t like rocks because they can harm farm equipment.
In a devotional by Jennifer Lee, she writes her husband, a farmer, says it is winter’s way of “healing the land.”
The land can’t heal without winter.
She writes, “I think the same is true of us. We all need winter seasons to heal us, to unearth rock-like burdens embedded in the soil of our hearts.”
Most people do, too. Winter season forces us to slow down, reflect, and give God the rocks that have surfaced the unseen burdens.” Taken from “The Slow, Healing Work of Winter”
"For everything, there is a season and a time for every activity under heaven." ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV
Adversity Armor
We all face adversity. Christ told us we would. He quickly followed that statement with, “Take heart, I have overcome the world”. He assures us that we can too! He also said we would need some equipment. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” ~ Ephesians 6:11 ESV
