Principal's Update
We're sending this out a bit early this week to make sure you have the reminder that this evening is our annual Spooktacular event. See below for more details, and come to enjoy all the fun!
Next week, students, staff, and families will be invited to share feedback with us. We are proud to provide great opportunities for each student, and we aim to do an ever better job next school year. Your input and feedback will be instrumental in our planning, as it helps identify what is working and where we can grow as a district. Please watch your email for the link to the K-5 WBSD Family Feedback Survey and take a moment to share your insights. If you have questions about the surveys or would like to provide additional information after taking it, please contact the Educational Services Department at 248-865-6496.
Finally, just a friendly reminder that there is no parking immediately in front of the school where the cones are set up. On the rare occasion that you have to drop a student off after 9:08am or pick a student up for early dismissal before 3:30pm, please park in a designated space and walk in to the main office. Otherwise, please join car line. Thank you for your help!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Jen Teal, Principal
Featured Book
Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola
Strega Nona—“Grandma Witch”—is the source for potions, cures, magic, and comfort in her Calabrian town. Her magical ever-full pasta pot is especially intriguing to hungry Big Anthony. Big Anthony is supposed to look after her house and tend her garden, but one day, when she goes over the mountain to visit Strega Amelia, he recites the magic verse over the pasta pot, with disastrous results.
Spooktacular is TONIGHT!
Rockin' Crocs
Here at Gretchko, we love recognizing students who are following our classroom social contracts and demonstrating responsibility, respect, safety, and kindness. This week, we have been on the lookout for students who are setting a great example and we have been handing out many Rockin' Croc tickets. A copy of the ticket goes home so you can celebrate with your student as well, and the other half is entered into our Friday drawing. This week's winners are:Presley Andersen, Emmitt Hawkins, Jade Zietlow, Michael Lekhtman, Avery Tarolli, Leilani Madden, Landry Rivet, Ayla Foster, Davrick Prieto, Ellery Koivunen, Ben Leach, Eleonora Merwin, Gavin Diep, Lina Waack, Drew Baker, Isla Kowalski, and RJ Ladue.
I Center Update
All Gretchko readers are practicing where to locate books in the iCenter. This week students participated in a scavenger hunt around the library, finding books of various formats and genres. Our kindergartners are learning where to find the 100 Books to Read in Kindergarten. First and second graders know how to locate various fictions books, while our upper elementary readers are locating biographies, fiction chapter books, graphic novels, and traditional literature like fairytales, folktales, and fables.
