Week in Review and Updates
Happy Friday Team,
1st trimester ended today. Report cards go home on Thursday, November 21st.
If you need me please don't hesitate to reach out to me at 312-841-1111.
Have a great weekend!
Buona Beef Fundraiser
On December 12, PTC will be hosting a fundraiser. I would like to propose that we as a staff buy lunch that day. Jaclyn and I will work to put together a menu for us to order from to benefit the school. This is voluntary. To make things easier we will be accepting cash for those that want to order. More information to come.
Upper Ramp Doors
We learned that the door going up the ramp isn't broken.😀. When opening the door the handle needs to be turned all the way until you hear the click. This allows the mechanism at the top of the door to release and fully close.
Hopefully that will rectify the issue. If you notice the issue is still happening after turning the knob fully, please let me know.
Powerschool and Incident Management
On Sept. 26th as a staff we learned about the District's move to using PowerTeacher to track observations around student behavior and escalate to an incident electronically. We have learned a few things during the last month, and must shift away from some staff using Incident Management to submit referrals.
If you are a certified staff member with class rosters in PowerTeacher: track observations in PowerTeacherPro using the observation feature. This will give you the opportunity to track classroom managed behavior and interventions and then escalate to an administrator as appropriate.
If you are a certified staff member without class rosters: (this would
be related service at all levels, at elementary only - EL/Intervention/Challenge/LMC) use the paper referral available in the office or PDF linked here to escalate a behavior observation to the administrator. You can use your own method to record behavior observations and interventions that are staff monitored and not escalated to the office.
If you are a non-certified staff member: please use the paper referral available in the office.
**Please continue to document all parent contact in Embrace for all students.
If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Brain Break
Friendly reminder...When we go out for brain break, please make sure all equipment is brought back in. If items are lost (over the fence or on the roof) please let the office know. We want to make sure that we don't run out of things for students to play with during their time outside.
Thanks
Bathroom usage
During outdoor activities (i.e. p.e., extra recess, brain breaks): please make sure that students are entering through door 1 to use the main hallway bathroom next to the gym.
Please have a conversation with your students about what bathrooms they have access to throughout those times. Students should not be using the staff bathrooms.
Ron and I had a conversation about the locks on the bathroom doors that are getting stuck. The company no longer has the parts to fix the locks. He has ordered new locks for the bathrooms and will be fixing them once they arrive.
Fire Drill update
Classroom teachers once your class is outside you will take attendance. If you are missing any students you will show the check-in card stating that you are missing some of your students.
Specialists that have students will find classroom teachers once outside and return students them to their (home) classrooms for attendance. Once classroom teachers have all of their students they will switch the attendance check-in card to show all students are present.
When students are in specials the (homeroom) classroom teacher will go to where the class is and check in.
Last but not least, during our fire drills this year, we used the auxilary panel which doesn't sound outside. In the instance that the fire lever is pulled it will sound in and outside of the building.
BIG ASK
We are still in the process of hiring aides for the building. Please spread the word as much as possible. We are trying to get the best people to support our students.
Supply orders
Going forward, Jaclyn will be placing orders on the 1st and 15th of the month. If you notice that we are running low on any items in the workroom, please use the qr code in the work room or behind Jaclyn's desk to add your items or come into the office to write them on the clipboard behind Jaclyn.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Chromebooks
The loaner chromebooks and iPads are now located in the LMC. Please view the attached presentation to see how the new system will work. We will refine the system as needed!

Educational Articles
Take a second to read the article(s) below. It has some really nice tips.
Staff can use translation app for family communications
All CCSD 89 staff members can now access TalkingPoints, an app that allows teachers to write back-and-forth with families who use languages other than English.
When logged in to TalkingPoints, a staff member can send a message through the app in English. The family will receive the message automatically translated into their preferred language. The family can respond in their language and the response is translated to English for the teacher. TalkingPoints has more than 100 available languages.
TalkingPoints can be accessed through your laptop and it also has a phone app. Staff can access TalkingPoints by logging into Clever. When you log on, your families will already be rostered.
The first time a staff member sends a message, the family will receive a text message inviting them to download the app for free. The language will default to the family’s preferred language in PowerSchool.
More information about TalkingPoints is available here: https://talkingpts.org/resources/
