Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. I enjoy watching the Calgary Stampeders play football, whether it is on television, or at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. Wordle is part of my daily routine; I love to play word games.
My time at KPS started when I was in grade 1. I was a student here until I went to high school. I have been part of the KPS staff since 2005.
Why Attend Parent-Teacher Interviews?
Parent-teacher interviews are a valuable opportunity to stay involved in your child’s education. Here’s why attending matters:
📚 Stay Informed – Gain insight into your child’s academic progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
👂 Open Communication – Connect with teachers to discuss learning strategies and support; find out how you can help your child at home.
🎯 Set Goals – Work together to set achievable goals for success.
🏫 Stronger School Connection – Show your child that education is a priority.
Your involvement makes a difference!
Our second Parent-teacher conferences are happening on Feb. 27 from 4 pm - 8:30 pm. Sign up for a time with your child’s teachers at https://kps.schoolappointments.com or by calling Mrs. Brodie in the office. Remember, reach out to your child’s teacher at any time to schedule an appointment to help your child succeed. Mission Impossible
Mr. Gratrix, our athletic director, created a fun and engaging Mission Impossible obstacle course to challenge students during phys ed classes. During the week of Feb. 3 - 7, students participated in teams to get through the obstacles and score points for their team of spies. The guards, students on the opposite team, watched carefully to ensure the students made it through each obstacle, and sent them back to try again if they weren’t successful. In addition to all the curriculum based motor skills practiced, this obstacle course builds a growth mindset and resilience. It supports students to keep trying despite failure, helping them seek ways to modify their movements to be more successful. There was a lot of excitement around this course and we can’t wait to try a new course next year! An extra challenge was added on the last day and students were given the option to increase the difficulty by wearing a backpack through the course! Thanks Mr. Gratrix for this great idea and all your work with planning and setup!
Junior High Leadership
Junior High Leadership is new this year, thanks to Mr. Gratrix and Mrs. Nelson. Read below to find out what this group has been up to:
The Junior High Leadership group helps out around the school and provides leadership and positive role models for peers and younger students. They run and plan assemblies, colour group activities, spirit days, and special events. Leadership also sends a student representative to Parent Council meetings. The current members are Brittyn Delowsky, Aspen Borgel, Emma Hart, Duncan Kueber, Sara-Jane Ruzicka, Hailey McGowan, Charlie Child, Kate MacKinnon, Ericka Kueber, Harper Cox and Abby Wideman. They are always looking for new members, so if you are in junior high and you are interested in joining, talk to Mr. Gratrix or Mrs. Nelson. The leadership group is planning to expand and will be talking to Grade 6 students about leadership opportunities soon.

Grade 4-9 Ski Trip
The yearly trip to Alliance Valley Ski Hill was well attended this year. We had great participation from all grades!! Below are some pictures of some of our students skiing. Everyone seemed to have a great time and no one returned with any broken bones!! We call that a success!!
While the big kids are away, grades K-3 will play
On January 30, while grades 4-9 were at their ski trip, grades K-3 were able to have some fun of their own. All grades got to bring a blanket and stuffy to watch a movie in the gym, then they took a break and had a game of hide and seek (one of the only times they are allowed to run in the school). It was a great day!

Grades 7 and 8 Social Projects

Paper Mache Planets in Grade 6
Grade 6 students created planet sculptures using paper mache. Once finished, they painted their planets to be as accurate as possible. Then, students used the hallway to create a scale model of our solar system with their planets.
Reading Buddies
Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 5/6 students had reading buddies again this week. Students are really working together well.
