Sammy Safe Eyes with Dr. Scott VIDEO
On Wednesday March 13th, Dr. Scott Sedlacek visited our Lunn Road Preschool to visit with our students. He spoke with our students about eye health and safety through a program called Realeyes.
Realeyes connects classrooms with eye doctors in the community who present age-appropriate, standardized, interactive curriculum about the importance of vision. Now in its 18th year, the program has been presented to over 550,000 students in schools throughout Ohio.
"Vision is important in childhood learning, and vision care is critical to the academic development of Ohio's children," Sedlacek said. "Eighty percent of what a child learns is through sight. Research shows one in four children has an undetected eye disorder yet only 15 percent of children entering school have ever had an eye examination."
Students will follow the story of "Sammy Safe-Eyes" as they sing songs and do activities to learn about vision. The concepts of eye safety, how the eye works and symptoms of common eye disorders are also taught along the way.
