Sunrise Family Updates
5.17.24
Hi Sunrise Families!
I hope this message finds you well! We have entered a very busy time of the year and I hope you are finding time to rest and also enjoy it all. Friends with older children remind me that the "days are long, but the years are short."
Students began their STAR testing this week in Reading and most will tackle Math next week. We look forward to sharing the results with you as to how much students have grown this year. A reminder this is only one test, but it gives you a snapshot. We are already seeing some really great growth!
A quick reminder that our lost and found is overflowing. We are planning to donate its contents next Friday. Thank you for encouraging your child to check the lost and found before their snow pants find their way to Feed and Clothe My People!
Enjoy the rest of the updates and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
ABCs to End the Year!
Earth Day at Crossroads on Thursday, May 16
Unfortunately the rain shortened this year's activities considerably. However, we still had a great time and were able to move the concert portion indoors. One our substitute teachers, Mr. Michael Bleck is also a musician and so he performed for us indoors, instead of at the Crossroads amphitheater. Check out his band, Wagon Roots on Saturday, May 18 from 10 - 11:30 at Crossroads!
Fall Soccer Sign Up June 1st (for students who will be in 5th and 6th grade)
3rd Grade Science!
Sunrise Ambassadors at the DC Adventure Center (paid by a Rock the Dock Grant!)
STRIDE Summer Camp
The Stride Creative Summer Camp is scheduled for the summer of 2024! There will be two camp groups, one in Sturgeon Bay and one in Northern Door (Sister Bay). This camp will run from 1:00-4:30 pm on Mondays (Sturgeon Bay) and Tuesdays (Sister Bay) for 5 weeks beginning on July 8/9. The flyer with full camp information is attached.
This is open to any youth entering 5-8th grade and we are taking 6 youth for each location. It is a first come first serve basis, with registration up on the Stride website (https://www.stridecreativedc.com/summer-program-2024). Once or if registration is full, the website will offer for parents to register for a wait list.
5th Graders at UW Green Bay
Eight 5th Grade students were selected to attend a writing workshop at the UW Green Bay STEM Innovation Center in May. Workshop sessions ranged from writing to drawing to creating their own journal. Students had a great time unleashing their creativity and getting new ideas for their own writing.
Bike to School Success!
Thank you to all of the students who biked to school today! It was a foggy morning and our bike racks are full!
