Principal Message
On October 18th we will have completed the first marking period. Our students have lots to celebrate behaviorally and academically. You will be able to access your child’s report card in HAC (Home Access Center) on October 25th. Please be sure to celebrate your child’s successes with them. We ask you to please complete a form to make us aware that you have seen your child’s report card. Please click here to access the form. We ask for this to be done by October 28th.
We are asking that our Tigers be in attendance every day unless they are sick. Attendance is important to the success of our students. When your child misses school, they miss 7 valuable hours of learning each day. This also includes arriving late and leaving early. When they arrive late or are picked up early, they are missing the same content each day. We range from 40-65 tardies a day and 30-60 students that leave early daily. Absenteeism can negatively impact a student’s academic progress, social development, and overall well-being. We need your help and support in ensuring our students have strong attendance. Having good attendance will also allow your child to be able to attend our Pack Party that happens every marking period.
Lastly, we are aware that we have many walkers being picked up in cars this school year. Please do not block driveways when parking to get your child from the walker/biker dismissal area. Our community members are not able to leave their homes when this occurs. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Monthly Character Traits
(Gleason will introduce the trait the first Wednesday of each month)
October: Self-Control
This month as part of the CFISD’s Bringing Out the Best Program (BOTB), we are focusing on Self Control. The definition is having restraint used over one’s own impulses, emotions or desires.
Red Ribbon Week: October 28th-November 1st
This week the focus is safe choices and being kind even when no one is watching. In class meetings, students will have lessons that discuss making kind and safe choices for ourselves and others. This week and everyday after, we promise to live a drug-free and bully-free and C.A.R.E. for others. At home, please continue the discussion.
Counselor's Corner
We hope you and your child(ren) enjoyed talking about colleges and careers this week. Throughout the month of October, we will be planting the seeds for higher education. Careers will be explored along with what education is needed. Please continue the conversations at home.
Tip 1: Higher Education
Furthering our education is important, but that does not always mean college, but it does mean having some kind of goal for training towards a career.
Tip 2: Explore Careers
Here’s a great resource to continue the conversation and explore careers that might interest your child. Career Videos- Explore different careers
Tip 3: Balancing Dreams with Reality
In early elementary, it’s important to allow kids to dream and explore future careers through imaginative play. We want to guide their dreams and help them experience the dreams to see if it’s something they actually enjoy. As a child gets older, the discussions change to involve more what it takes to be in the career: work ethic, education and so forth. Here’s a great resource for older children. Reality Check Texas- Will your child be able to afford the lifestyle he or she would like with a career they are interested in pursuing.
As you’re having these conversations, we encourage your child(ren) to participate in our “When I Grow Up” Day on October 31st by dressing as their future career choice. Some of our parents and other community members will be presenting about their career and education journey.
Please note the following guidelines for dress up on October 31st:
Dress up must be career attire
Please do not dress up as fictional characters such as princesses, superheroes, and other fictional characters.
Please remember that head coverings, weapons and toys are not permitted.
We need your help for College and Career Day!!
Thursday, October 31, 2024!!
Thank you to the parents who have already signed up to participate!
As part of the counseling curriculum, we introduce elementary students to careers and educational opportunities. Our goal is to plant the seed that ALL students can further their education and show them a variety of occupations. This is where we need your help. We are looking for presenters. Would you or someone you know be interested in presenting? If so, please click here to fill out the interest form and someone will reach out to you.
Gleason Giving Drive
We are collecting gift card donations from Walmart, Target, Kroger and/or HEB now through December for our families in need for the holidays. If your family would like to donate a $10.00 gift card to help other Gleason families, please send them in an envelope with your child’s name on it to be turned into the Gleason counselor. Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
5th Grade Parents
I hope you have had a chance to read the School Messenger about K-level classes for 6th grade. To be part of the K-classes, your child must have a yearly average of 85% or higher in that subject area or receive masters on STAAR for the subject area during 5th grade. So, please help your child by watching their grades, effort and behavior. If you see your child’s grades are dropping, have those conversations with your child.
Students that receive Gifted and Talented services must qualify for K-level to be placed in a 6th grade Horizon’s class.
Students that receive modifications or accommodations such as: extra time, oral administration or calculator will not receive K-level letters. The K-level class moves at a faster pace and cannot provide certain accommodations.

What a great start to the 2024 - 2025 school year! Our tigers are in the midst of being immersed into learning about academics as well as procedures throughout our school. Students are working hard to earn tiger bucks to spend on our R.O.A.R. Store as well as our classroom stores! Below is a copy of our classroom matrix. Talk with your child about what each letter of R.O.A.R. means and what it means to R.O.A.R. in the classroom. If you'd like to create your own matrix for use at home, use the link below:

Watch D.O.G.S.
Thank you for supporting our students at Gleason Elementary School! Your support is invaluable as we prepare to introduce the highly anticipated WATCH D.O.G.S. program.
What is Watch D.O.G.S.?
The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. Program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement organizations in the country. Our programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying, and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
