Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
What a terribly cold week, it sure made the kids walk a little faster when they got off the bus. Once they got inside, we had a great week of learning. The kids are busy finishing up their encore classes for the semester and getting things turned in to end the quarter. Lots of activity!
This week we had the opportunity to recognize two of our staff members with Soaring Eagle Awards. Just like we recognize students who exemplify our SOAR attribute, we are now doing the same with the adults. The attributes are as follows:
- Show Leadership
- Embrace Opportunity
- Aim for Excellence
- Be Resilient
This cycle we had two staff members, who were nominated by their colleagues, win these awards. The first was SPAM team leader Mrs. Adrian, who was recognized for her abilities as a great team leader. The second was paraeducator Mr. Shepard, who was recognized for his ability to embrace opportunities. Mr. Shepard is new to us this year and makes a difference wherever he goes. Congratulations to you both!
Next week we do have a half day on January 15th, so please plan accordingly.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Be well,
Jill Wnuk

TRANSPORTATION STIPEND
January 7, 2025
Re: Parent/Guardian Transportation Stipend Reimbursement
Dear CompSci Middle Families,
The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) partners with the Capitol Region Education Council to operate a regional transportation system that serves the Greater Hartford school choice programs.
Generally, interdistrict transportation is available during regular school hours for students in kindergarten through grade 12 who reside in towns within the transportation zone. Non-Hartford resident PK3 and PK4 students and students who reside outside of the transportation zone and do not utilize RSCO transportation services in another town, may be eligible to receive a transportation stipend.
As a parent/guardian, if you feel you are eligible to receive this stipend for the reasons listed below, please click on the link to complete the transportation stipend reimbursement form.
a) You transport your PK3 or PK4 aged student to and from school because transportation is not otherwise provided.
b) You live outside of the transportation zone, and other transportation options have not been set up with RSCO Transportation.

The deadline to submit the 2024-2025 transportation stipend reimbursement form is June 15, 2025. Please consider submitting this form as early as possible. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email which we encourage you to keep for your records. Reimbursement to approved families will be mailed in late August.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact RSCO Transportation at 860-524-4077.
Thank you,

https://kireland.wufoo.com/forms/parentguardian-transportation-reimbursement-form
Gracias,

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
