School Counselor Ms. Castanon
eSTEM Last Names: M-Z
Welcome Message
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well and excited for the upcoming school year! It is incredible how quickly time flies, and here we are diving into another school year. I'd like to inform you of a slight change to my caseload for the 2024/25 school year- I am thrilled to be working with eSTEM Students Last Names: M-Z! I am eager to meet both new and familiar faces among our students and families.
Please know I am here to assist with academic, social/emotional, and college/career needs throughout the year. I regularly collaborate with all of our ERHS Counseling team to ensure we prove you with the necessary information, resources, and support. I encourage you to go through this newsletter thoroughly as I share details on the various ways you and your family can connect with me as well as highlight some of the programs available through our Counseling Department.
I am fully prepared and committed to supporting you, your family, and our community this school year. I am looking forward to connecting with you soon, and I genuinely hope that this year is full of successful experiences for ALL!
Allow me to introduce myself- I am Hilda Jauregui-Castañon, students know me as Ms. Castañon, and I am starting my 11th year as a High School Counselor. For the past 10 years I've had the privilege of being part of the ERHS community and prior to that I worked at a community day school/continuation school in Phelan.
I was born in the small town of Mechoacanejo in Jalisco, Mexico and permanently moved to the United States during my early childhood years. I've lived in various cities across California, such as Long Beach, Anaheim, Sacramento, Corona, and have called the Inland Empire my home for over 15 years. I am a proud graduate of Etiwanda High School, pursued my undergraduate studies in Psychology at Cal Poly Pomona, and furthered my education with a master's degree in Educational Counseling along with a School Counseling Credential from Azusa Pacific University.
In addition to my extensive years of service, I am fluent in Spanish and have had the pleasure of working with students from kindergarten to 12th grade. My dedication to education is deep, and I am committed to optimizing students success. My education in conjunction with my experience have helped me become a multicultural school counselor equipped with resources and tools that allow me to work with all groups and individuals. Moreover, I am a dedicated problem solving type of individual who contributes, communicates and collaborates effectively with others, especially when advocating for our students.
My path to becoming a School Counselor was driven by a profound desire to support students and their families in the realms of academics, college and career readiness, and social-emotional well-being. I stand as an advocate for ALL students, offering a supportive environment to guide them towards academic and life aspirations. Recognizing the uniqueness of each student in their learning styles, abilities, and aspirations, I am dedicated to fostering relationships that enable me to provide support to ALL STUDENTS! Students, I encourage you to drop by T121 to connect with me!

It encourages me to continue to strive for excellence in my work with students, families, and staff.

As a School Counselor I support students in three domains: academic, personal/social, and college/career. In these three domains, I focus on supporting the whole student throughout their years at our site and hope that they leave with valuable skills. I work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure equity, access, and success of ALL students. My work is driven by their needs, data and feedback.
I am available all school year for scheduling concerns/questions, assistance with communicating with teachers, grade concerns, navigating the college A-G requirements, college applications, financial aid, career navigation/exploration, personal/social counseling, crisis counseling, group counseling/workshops, referrals/resources, etc.
I will send announcements of workshops/events/presentations or reminders specific to Counseling periodically throughout the year. Please double check your contact information on Q Parent Connect and update if needed. I want to make sure you receive information from our Counseling Department.
Scheduling and Transcript Review
Please know that I have reviewed each student's transcript for his/her/their needs. I double check to make sure students are on track with graduation, A-G, CCI and/or on a STEM Pathway. I then go through each schedule to ensure that the courses they are in are ones that will fulfil the required areas for graduation, A-G, CCI and/or STEM Pathway.
In scheduling, we prioritize STEM students with STEM teachers, however it is not always possible. Students may travel between ERHS and eSTEM campuses for their classes.
Note: If any special leadership, band, or sports classes are missing from your schedule, please come see me! In the transition of sub counselors last year, there may be some rosters that were missed.

Dual Enrollment is available for all students who are interested in taking transferrable college classes, but it is not a requirement.
9th graders can sign up for GUI 47/48 for the spring but no sooner. 10th-12th graders can sign up for all other classes so long as pre-requisites are met.
Be sure to take courses that make sense for your future path and/or are college requirements. I recommend students get comfortable with their high school classes before considering adding on another course.
