SMS Scoop

College Go! Week
SMS is observing College Go! week from September 23 - 27.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear college apparel.
Our overall message throughout the week will be that college is one way for students to reach their career goals. We will provide opportunities for them to hear (and ask questions) about a variety of career experiences.
First Six Weeks Ended on September 20th
Report cards from the first six weeks will be published in Harmony Family Access on Wednesday, September 25th. The grades on that report card determine students' eligibility for extracurricular activities.
The grades from our first six weeks will be averaged with course grades from the second six weeks to calculate trimester grades.
The grade point average of the trimester grades is what we use to determine medal awards at the end of each school year.
Picture Retakes
On Thursday, September 26th SMS students, faculty, and staff will have an opportunity to participate in picture retakes. Here is the link to order retakes. The code you need is 86910S.
If your child participated in the original picture day and you would like to order pictures from that day, the code you need is 86910P. Picture packages were sent home with students on Thursday, September 12th. Students who participated in the original picture day received their badges on Monday, September 16th.
Harmony Family Access
Harmony made some updates over the summer, including a new link for Harmony Family Access. When you need to visit Harmony Family Access to update information, check grades, add money to a cafeteria account, etc., please use this link. It is also located on the Scott 2 website under "Students & Parents" if you prefer to access it from there.
Parent-Teacher Conferences Statement
As education has continued to evolve in the 21st century, Scott County School District 2 has continually been ahead of the curve providing our students with the best devices, learning management system, and connectivity. Parents, teachers, and students are more closely linked than ever before with 24/7 access to course materials, grades, and a variety of tools (such as email, Canvas messaging, Harmony Family Access, and Parent Square) to make sure our students are on track and our parents are informed.
One byproduct of this outreach and connectivity has been a decline in attendance at traditional-style events like parent-teacher conferences. While these events were valuable in the past, they are not always the best means of engagement in today’s faster-paced, more connected world.
Moving forward, we will only request traditional in-person conferences for students and families who need it. We are still more than happy to meet with any parents and students who wish to have an in-person meeting. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers to set up an in-person or digital conference if they feel one is needed.
When you #ChooseScott2, we provide transparency and access to updates regarding your student’s achievement, behavior, and learning. We look forward to traveling with your families on the path to a brighter future.
If you have more questions about how to get connected with your child’s school, please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher or building administrator.
