Happy Labor Day weekend!

It was about this time last year that I wrote to let you know that we had been placed on priority improvement due to our School Performance Framework (which is based on CMAS). It didn't feel great for us as a community but, as the Everitt community always does, we gathered together and put our minds and hearts into fixing it. From that moment to this one, our staff, our students, and our families dug deep and went all in. Our parents got out the word about the importance of participation in CMAS and in students doing their best. You supported your children in their learning throughout the year. You followed a CMAS schedule that we all believed would best support our students in being successful. You opted your children in and encouraged their participation in the test. Our teachers prepared engaging and rigorous lessons for our students throughout the year so that they could learn and grow. Our staff met with small groups and worked one-on-one with students, ensured that everyone had enough to eat, and kept our spaces clean and safe. And, most importantly, our students showed up each and every day and especially when it was time for the CMAS tests. They took their time and did their best. They believed in themselves as scholars. And, you know what, it worked! When the Everitt community comes together, things happen. Everitt grew nearly 10 percentage points on our School Performance Framework rating and moved from priority improvement to improvement. There is much to celebrate! But we aren't finished yet. This year, we need only 6 more points to make it to performance and we are going to do it.

In a future newsletter, I will share with you our plan to get there. If you'd like to be part of creating the plan, and we would love it if you would, please join us next Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the library for our School Accountability Committee. We will go over the data and the draft of our Unified Improvement Plan. I would love to hear your ideas about how we might all partner together to finish what we started. Better yet, join us at 5:00 for PTA and stay for SAC. You can learn about ways to get involved in the wonderful things happening at Everitt.

All families are required to complete an annual update every school year. This is where you make sure all contact information is correct, add or delete emergency contacts (we require at least one that is not a parent/guardian), and you will also electronically sign agreements for the year.

In order to complete registration for school, follow these three easy steps:

1. Complete the annual update in Infinite Campus.

2. Complete the meal (fee) benefits application . This has many benefits for your family and for our school. These include but are not limited to free or reduced class fees.

3. Complete bus registration (if needed).

The easiest way to figure out if you have already done this, is to try to complete Step #1. After you log in, click "More" and then "Annual Update". You will see a message that either says "Complete" or "Not Started".

In order to maximize the time spent learning in classes, beginning on Monday, students who receive three tardies will receive a before-school detention with Mr. Bauer on Tuesday mornings at 7:30. They will talk about this policy more in their LAB time on Monday. Thank for supporting your children in getting to class on time.

Dear Families!

The mental health team is starting our SEL groups in September. 8th grade groups will be held during Late Start on Thursday mornings. Our focus will be on helping students increase focus, mind/body connection and coping skills. This will be a 6-week group with room for 8-10 students. I’ve included a brief survey for you to fill out regarding your child. This information will help us select students for this round of groups. Space is limited so not all students will be able to participate. However, if you feel your child would benefit from support, there is a place at the end of the survey to indicate this need. Someone from our team will reach out to discuss this in more depth with you.

Bus and light rail fares will soon be free for youth for an entire year in the Denver metro area.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) approved a new fare structure on July 25 that includes a "Zero Fare for Youth" pilot program.

This new program will allow youth ages 19 and under to use RTD’s services at no cost. Zero Fare for Youth begins Sept. 1 and will last through August, 2024. Check out the link from 9News here:

Every Thursday will be a late start at Everitt and we will run the Thursday schedule above. All students are enrolled in a study hall during the late start from 8:55-9:52 am. During that time, teachers will alternate between providing supervision for students in study hall and working collaboratively on lesson and unit planning with their colleagues. Students will be working on assignments, completing projects, or reading. If you would like your child to come to school at 9:55 instead of attending study hall, please let Ms. Ronnie in the main office know. The preferred method of letting her know is to send her an email at Veronica.Pineda@jeffco.k12.co.us or you can call the attendance line at 303-982-1573.

Hello Parents and Participants,

The 2023 JeffCo League Cross Country Schedule is available for viewing on Teamsideline.com. Course maps with start and finish line locations can also be found linked to each course.

Meets will take place on either Monday or Wednesday, replacing practice for that day. Please review the schedule in its entirety as you will not attend every meet throughout the season.

Reminders:

• Meets start at 4:30 with the first race going off at 4:45pm. The second rage will go off at 5:15pm.
  
• Each race will alternate which gender goes first.
• All participants are required to wear their team/school shirt for meets along with athletic shorts/pants and shoes.
• Dress appropriately and bring layers as weather conditions can change.
  
• Come prepared with sunscreen, water, and a snack.
• Parents are required to provide transportation to and from away games – Car pooling is a big help.

The 2023 Jeffco League Cross Country rules must be upheld by all participants, parents, coaches, and officials at all times. League Rule violations will result in disciplinary action.

Nevaeh M. ~ In addition to coming into class with lots of spirit and joy, Nevaeh is constantly asking important questions so that she can grow. Her curiosity is infectious and positively vibrates throughout the room! I am so very grateful to have her in class!

Romelo B. ~ When another student attempted to instigate a conflict Romelo was calm, collected, and refused to reply to their push back. He set an example to the class in the moment and helped me calm the class.

Tony B. ~ Tony has repeatedly asked great questions, followed discussions, and been very thoughtful to their peers in class. I've been very thankful of their presence and consciousness of when they know they'll be distracted.

Henry P. ~ Henry is such a positive community member in our STEM classroom! He participates, engages in higher level thinking, and is always willing to help! He is a great role model, even when his friends are not making the same choices.

Kenny G. ~ Kenny has done a great job in STEM of asking questions and participating in class. He displays an incredible amount of grit and resilience, never giving up on our coding and asking for help when he needs it.

Allena H. ~ Lena is always ready in class. She is here to learn and demonstrates amazing focus and hard work. I am so grateful for her silent leadership but she is also an amazing singer and musician. I feel very lucky to have her in class; she brings me so much joy!

Dominic M. ~ Dominic was a positive leader and helper to one of our new students. Even with a guest teacher leading class, Dom stepped up to help out a struggling student and the sub!

Julayna P. ~ JJ took a risk in sharing during math. When no one wanted to step up and explain their work, JJ explained how to solve the problem.

Ava R. ~ Ava is a hard worker and is always willing to participate. She takes risks to answer questions and helps keep the discussion going.

Luke G. ~ Luke was incredibly kind when he noticed a peer sitting alone at lunch. Luke stood up and invited the other student to come sit with him and his friends. Luke is always upbeat and willing to include others.

Stella H. ~ Stella is quick to advocate for other students and is thoughtful.

Theo F. ~ Theo does an amazing job leading by example. He is positive, on task and just so much fun to have in class. For someone who was unsure about joining musical theater has been so positive and so strong in the leadership qualities I need for students to thrive. So very grateful.

Darely R. ~ Darely helped a student get to their class without being asked and showed kindness to someone in need!

Quincey D. ~ She's doing an awesome job as an office TA. The counselors are thankful for delivering out passes and asking great questions.

Lily M. ~ I watch as Lilly leads the musical theater classroom with her outstanding acting skills. Her energy vibrates to all the other students and brings us such joy. I cannot WAIT to see what she brings to the stage in a few months! It is certainly going to be entertaining and fun! Thank you Lily for not only leading in musical theater, but also demonstrating the expectations in acting!

Amelia V. ~ Amelia overcame her anxiety and fear. She started our classroom presentations in ELA.

Kayden P. ~ It is so wonderful to see Kayden take a leap of faith with his scene partner in musical theater. Together with his partner, they have created magic on stage that left everyone impressed. It takes a lot of bravery to put yourself out there to perform and he not only did it but he impressed us all with his character development. Amazing job, Kayden!
