Kindergarten Visit Day
Spend the morning in Kindergarten! April 25th, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Students will be "kindergarteners" for the morning and will work on activities in the kindergarten classrooms. They will eat lunch in the cafeteria. Lunch will be served at no cost on this day.
- Current Central Springs preschoolers attending should come to school the same way they would if we were having preschool (via the bus, daycare if arriving before 8:30 or the preschool doors between 8:25 and 8:30). When dropping off students this day, be sure to tell staff their plan for 11:30- will your child be picked up at 11:30 (at the daycare doors) or go to daycare? If your child rides the bus to school, please send a note with them or communicate via Seesaw with your teacher.
- For students who are coming that will be new to the district, a teacher will meet you at the main doors before and after the experience to assist your child to the Kindergarten room.
- The kindergarten teachers are asking you to complete the form listed below before the visit day. The teachers value this information and will use it to best support your child. Even if your child can't make the visit day, we ask that you fill out the form.

Health Information
Welcome to Kindergarten! Before the start of the 2025-26 school year, the following health exams
and completed forms are needed. You may turn in the completed health forms to the school nurse
any time before the start of the school year. The Beginning of the School Year Conferences are a
great time to turn in the health forms and visit with the school nurse about any concerns you have
regarding your child’s health (i.e. food allergies, diabetes, seizure disorder, asthma, medication
that needs to be given during the school day, etc.).
Below is the list of health requirements and recommendations for ALL kindergarten students:
● Student Health Summary – Required at the beginning of each school year. This is completed as
part of your child’s school registration process.
● Immunization Record- Required- Iowa State law requires that kindergarten students are
updated on all immunizations by the first day of school. I recommend contacting your child’s
healthcare provider, Cerro Gordo Public Health, or Worth County Public Health to inquire about
your child’s immunization status if unsure.
*Exemption forms are available on the Central Springs website or upon request.
● Certificate of Dental Screening – Required for all Kindergarten students. If your child has had a
dental exam performed at any time since the age of three, please take the dental form to the dental
office to be completed. If your child has not had a dental exam, please schedule an appointment at
your earliest convenience. If your child does not have a dental provider, please contact the school
nurse for assistance. Bring completed dental forms to the school nurse. Dental Exams and forms
need to be completed by 12/15/25.
● Student Vision Screening – Required - All Kindergarten students need to have a vision
screening. The vision screening may be performed by your child’s optometrist or healthcare
provider. The deadline for the vision screening exam is 2/1/2026. Please have the provider’s office
complete the Certificate of Vision Screening.
● Physical – Recommended for all Kindergarten students entering school. If your child has had a
physical in the last year, please provide the school with a copy of the physical.
● Blood Lead Level – Iowa law Requires all incoming kindergartners must have a blood lead level
screening completed before the first day of school. This is usually done by a finger prick blood
draw and may have been done at an earlier age. Please contact your child’s healthcare provider
to ask if this blood test has been performed.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten
Giving Your Child a Good Start
What does my child need to know? What experiences will help them? Here are some helpful ideas from the teachers!
- Cutting: Practice using scissors- cut lines and curves. Use old newspapers, magazines, or coloring books. Have children trace objects and cut them out.
- Coloring: Encouraging coloring- staying within the confines of lines and using different colors in a picture. Use color names so the child recognizes colors.
- Printing: Allow the child to use pencils. Encourage correct grip. Begin printing name- use capital letters for the first letter and lowercase for the other letters.
- Numbers: Make children aware of the numbers around us. Count objects and name numbers.
- Dressing Themselves: Teach your child to tie shoes, snap, zipper, and button.
- Self Help Skills: Use the bathroom- flush and wash hands. Know their address, telephone number, first and last name, parent's names and birthday.
- Work Habits: Ability to sit, listen, and follow directions. Ability to get along with others, take turns, and follow rules.
