Cardinal O'Connell
October, 2024
Welcome from our Principal
Hello Cardinal Community,
It has been an exciting start to our school year here at the Cardinal. There is so much learning and growing in these first months, it is exciting to watch! Just a few weeks into our school year, our students are practicing new routines, creating new relationships, and exploring new things. Thank you for sharing them with us and partnering with us on behalf of their growth and development. We are glad you are here!
Warmly,
Kerry WIlcox,

What is School Site Council?
A school site council is a school building-based committee made up of the principal, parents, teachers and community members. As a member, you can become more committed to improving the school by helping to shape the policies and programs as well as being more supportive of the public school system. Have your voice heard on issues relating to the school's quality improvement plan, budget development and school events. We welcome anyone interested and look forward to seeing you there! The meeting will take place virtually via zoom.
Car Pool Reminders
We are asking families to please not arrive too early for dismissal at the end of the day. Our doors open at 3:15 and close at 3:30. Please do your best to arrive between those times. When cars arrive too early it causes a large traffic back up on Gorham Street. Also, please remember Thank you for your continued cooperation with our car pool
Winter Coats
As we move into fall, we know winter will be close behind, which means the cold weather is coming! We will be receiving a supply of boys and girls winter coats for children in need from some wonderful local organizations. If you are in need of a winter coat for your child please click on the button below and fill out a short form. We hope we are able to provide a coat for all of our students in need of one.
Car Seat Safety
We want to take a moment and remind families how important car seat safety is for all of our students. Children under the age of 8 or shorter than 57 inches tall must be in a federally approved car seat or booster seat in the state of MA at all times. We still see many of our students not buckled in car seats when being dropped off or picked up. Please remember to keep your child buckled while waiting in the carpool line even though it might be hard for them to wait the few minutes it takes to get unloaded. It is never safe to have your child in the front seat, even while waiting in line. Thank you to all of our Cardinal families for working with us to keep our students safe.
Pom Pom Bucket comes to the Cardinal
We are working on learning how to be successful in pre-school. For many of our young learners, this is their first time in school. We are learning many new skills such as listening to our teachers, following directions, walking in a line, waiting your turn, sharing with a friend, using your words, sitting for meals and treating each other with kindness... just to name a few. As students learn these skills and become more successful, they are earning pom poms to add to their class bucket. When the bucket gets filled, they earn a reward! Some of the rewards so far have been a dance party or pajama day. Students can earn pom poms all day long, in their classroom as well as walking through the halls. Ask your child all about it!
