HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
MAINE INTEGRATED YOUTH HEALTH SURVEY
The Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) is a biennial survey of Maine students in grades 5 through 12 that monitors health behaviors and attitudes regarding tobacco, alcohol, substance use, mental health, nutrition, physical activity, and protective factors. The MIYHS is conducted by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the Maine Department of Education. This survey will be facilitated in grades 6 - 8 here at WCS. A letter was sent out to middle school families last week with more information. The data gathered is completely anonymous and aids in lesson and program development in order to address areas of concern that are highlighted from the results of the surveys completed by students. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us here at school and/or you can visit their website by following this link: https://www.maine.gov/miyhs/faqs. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring our students are receiving relevant and valuable information that influences healthy adolescent development.
The WCS PTA is holding a family dance for students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade next Friday, February 14th from 6-7:30pm. Join us at this fun and free family event! All students must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
PURPLE PENNY
2024 champions: Mrs. Keefe's class. Who will win the penny this year?
We have one week left for the Pocket Change for Charity coin drive! Students and staff are encouraged to bring in change to donate and the classroom who gathers the most money will earn the honor of displaying the giant purple penny in their classroom. As of this week the standings are:
Ms. Sinclair's class in third place with $29.61
Mr. Huston's class in second place with $38.76
Ms. Culley's class in first place with $46.08
Let's keep those coins rolling in!
STUDENT TALENT SHOW
Things to Talk About
- Next week is the last week to check the WCS Lost & Found. Any unclaimed items will be donated over February Break.
- Please send your students to school with sneakers on P.E. days. We have seen a lot of boots this year, and it makes participation a real challenge. Mr. Hutchings has sneakers to borrow, but doesn't always have the right sizes needed to accommodate everyone in class. Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you need a reminder of your child's PE day, or if you need assistance in providing sneakers for your student.
- As of Friday, 2/7/25, the last day of school for K-12 students will be Monday, 6/16. This day may change due to cancellations/snow days.
