Congratulations Mrs. Bruns!
Shawnee Heights is excited to announce that Kaylyn Bruns, Kindergarten teacher at Berryton Elementary, has been named our Elementary Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Bruns is widely recognized for creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where every student thrives. Her hands-on approach and dedication to meeting the unique needs of each child make her a standout educator. Colleagues describe her as purposeful in every aspect of her teaching, integrating social-emotional skills, offering sensory-rich activities, and providing personalized attention to ensure each student's success.
Beyond her classroom, Mrs. Bruns stays deeply engaged with her students' families and works tirelessly to build strong relationships. She communicates frequently through newsletters and personal notes and even visits students' homes with birthday signs!
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Bruns on this well-deserved recognition and wish her luck as she submits her application for the Kansas Teacher of the Year.

BES Art Corner
This week in art class we started our fall projects! Kindergarten made the cutest corncobs with their handprint as the top silk, and they did bubble wrap printing for the bottom! Their displayed art is by the front office for all to see! 1st grade made mummies! We used oil pastels and ripped paper! They also learned how to draw spider webs. 2nd grade finished the frosting and toppings to their donuts and started their jack-o-lanterns! 3rd grade finished their can labels, and some classes finished their x-ray hands! They are super cool! We talked about proportion and also our skeletal system! 4th grade worked so hard on their eyeball art! They loved being super creative and some wanted to make theirs a bit spooky! 5th graders worked on their candy corn drawings! The skill was to work on proportion, shading, and blending. 6th graders worked on an awesome sugar skulls! They learned about the Día de Muertos-Day of the Dead holiday. The students painted their skulls on the floor and I enjoyed seeing them being really excited about a project!
