Midweek Update -
It appears that due to some technical difficulty over the weekend, we lost access to our last issue of The Big Cat Courier. Below is a recap of all the important information you'll need from now through the end of the day on Wednesday, June 17th. Please remember that the last student day of the 2019-2020 school year is this Friday, June 12th but the last day for staff is the following Wednesday. In addition to finishing up paperwork, packing classrooms, and buttoning up the building for the summer, keep reading this updated issue to see what we will be up to on those last three days.
End of Year Pickup -
We have scheduled the last three days of the staff school year for families to pick up students' items (report cards, personal items left in classrooms during the closure, spring pictures, art work, etc...). Our main goal is to get these items into your possession as safely as possible so we've developed a pickup protocol for Monday, June 15th, Tuesday, June 16th, and Wednesday, June 17th. We have not scheduled specific times and days for grade levels or classrooms in order to give families as much flexibility as possible. Families can come to pick up their students' items any of the three days between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM. With Barnard's enrollment hovering around 400 students, we anticipate that even with three days allotted to pickup, the line of vehicles could be lengthy at times. Please plan ahead.
Item pickup will be facilitated through the back doors of the school located between the gymnasium and the library where parents drop offs occur during the normal school year. To access this area, please drive through the side parking lot to the blacktop area behind the back play structure. Just like at student drop off, form a line that loops around the back blacktop area.
When you pull around to the doors, a masked and gloved staff member will be stationed to take your child's name and room number. They will radio the information to the staff members in the gym, who will retrieve your child's bagged items.
For your family's health and safety, as well as the health and safety of our staff, your party must remain in your vehicle at all times while you are on campus. We also ask that you remain masked and gloved during the entirety of the interaction.
Please note that staff has been instructed that they cannot receive any item, such as paperwork or notes, at any time during pickup. If you need to drop something off to the school or have any questions, please call the main office to set up an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled starting Thursday, June 18th.
End of Year Classroom Events -
Don't forget about this week's Virtual Field Day activities! Families can access them through Microsoft Teams and from what I've heard, the activities have been great! Thanks again to our PE department for working to put this traditional end of year staple in place during this very unusual end to the school year.
Waving Goodbye After Student Item Pickup -
Unfortunately, we can't have all of our teachers on the premises at the same time due to health and safety restrictions, but each teacher has signed up to take a shift at our front doors. Your child's classroom teacher will share the day and time they will be here so, if possible, you can coordinate that time to coincide with your item pickup.
The teachers will be masked, stationed behind tables, and appropriately socially distanced to ensure their safety. As with the pickup protocol in place at the back of the building, all members of your party must remain in your vehicle at all times.
As above, please note that staff has been instructed that they cannot receive any item, such as paperwork or notes, at any time during pickup. If you need to drop something off to the school or have any questions, please call the main office to set up an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled starting Thursday, June 18th.
