Mr. Mauck's Musings
Next week our students will have an opportunity to earn service hours for their graduation profiles. The Dubois County Graduation Profile has nine characteristics developed by county education and industry professionals. Each characteristic has exemplars illustrating the student's proficiency in each area. Since their freshman year our students have been creating a hyperportfolio to submit prior to graduation. On Wednesday March 5th all Juniors will be taking the SAT in the morning. Juniors will be allowed to leave once testing is complete if they have turned in a signed permission slip. All other students need to turn in a permission slip for that day indicating if they will be doing a Job Shadow, College visit, or Community Service. Seniors with vocational classes need to attend their afternoon Patoka Valley courses on March 5th unless their instructor tells them otherwise. Ask your student to see their portfolio. Permission slips are included below if you still need one.
Good luck to our swimmers and dancers as they compete for state titles this weekend. Vincent Bez, Carson Book, Pascal Conrad, Jonah Kuczynski, Cole Schmitt, and Grant Wehr will compete in just a few hours in the prelim races. Our dancer are headed to the Fair Grounds on Sunday to compete in Pom, Jazz and Hip-hop after qualifying for all three events. Go Cats. Congratulations to Hayden Clark and Mr. Devin Rottet on their selection as our Student and Staff of the Week. Good luck to our academic bowl teams competing today at Oakland City University. Next week is one of the greatest weeks in Indiana high school sports, the high school basketball sectional. The Wildcats open the sectional against Gibson Southern at Memorial Gym in Huntingburg. Come out and support the Cats and witness an atmosphere which inspired the movie "Hoosiers".
Next week is Read Across America Week and Mrs. Burns has a fun and engaging week of activities planned. We also start Youth Art Month and the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center will host a youth art exhibit. We have some outstanding submissions and very talented students. FFA concluded their FFA week activities this week with a petting zoo for the GJCS second graders and a tractor show. Our Academic Counselors are available for evening office hours on Mondays from 5-7pm. Email your counselor if you would like to set up a meeting. JHS PTO is looking for post prom donations. I have included that information below. Please consider donating to a fantastic event to safely cap off a Prom weekend.
On Monday and Tuesday next week consider moving the family dinner to a different location. On Monday March 3rd the JMLYC will have a fund raiser at Culvers to help raise funds for a sand volleyball court at Buehler Park. All you have to do is purchase food or a sweet treat and part of the proceeds will go to the park fund. Also, plan to have dinner at Retro in Jasper on Tuesday March 4th, and support Jasper High School’s Dance Marathon in their efforts to raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital! Two great causes to support by taking the family out to eat.
Have a great weekend and Go Cats!

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid site is now open for Students and Parents to complete their applications for next year. Any student considering attending college should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for financial assistance. I would encourage all families to fill out a application regardless of need as many colleges require FAFSA completion for all types of assistance. Many schools require submission for competitive non-need based scholarships or grants. The application is much easier than in the past. Click on the link for more information and to complete your application. FAFSA
Announcing Jasper Band Parents’ Annual Auction & Dinner Fundraiser - The Notable Event
The Jasper Band Parent Organization is excited to share details of their biggest annual fundraising event, the Notable Event Auction & Dinner. The public is invited to this fundraiser on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center in Jasper, IN.
The evening includes dinner, silent and live auctions, and games of chance. The event, for those aged 21 and above, promises an extraordinary night of friendship, food, and philanthropy in support of our local students and Jasper Band programs. The goal of the fundraiser is to be able to provide new uniforms, props, transportation, scholarships, and instruments. A portion of the funds is also targeted to contribute to the Jasper Bands’ Dubois County Community Foundation endowment, ensuring that local music education programs continue to thrive in the future.
The Notable Event auctions boast a diverse array of items suitable for all budgets, including sporting event tickets, themed baskets, local merchandise and gift certificates, and unique experiences like wine tastings, meal deliveries, scavenger hunts, golf rounds, spa parties, and more. Attendees can take pride in knowing their contributions, big or small, will directly impact the musical education of local students.
Please join us when the doors open at 5:00 pm with a lively cocktail hour, featuring a cash bar and grazing table. Attendees will have the opportunity to start bidding on silent auction items while mingling with friends and supporters. At 6:30 pm, guests will be treated to dinner followed by a dessert auction, which has become a sweet highlight of the night. The excitement continues with a silent auction concluding at 7:30 pm, followed by the live auction. Games of chance will be played throughout the evening.
Ticket prices for this unforgettable evening are $50 per person, with a business casual dress code recommended. Attendees are encouraged to also participate in the games of chance, which can be purchased upon entry. To guarantee reservations, RSVP by February 17. Tickets may be available at $55 per person after this date.
For those unable to attend in person, donations are gladly accepted. Checks can be mailed to ‘A Notable Event’, P.O. Box 948, Jasper, IN 47547, made out to the Jasper Band Parent Organization.

Trustees is actively engaged in the search process to hire a permanent district leader. The superintendent application is open until March 7, 2025.
As part of the active search, a survey was distributed to staff members, parents, and community members to gather valuable feedback. The insights from this survey will play a key role in guiding the school board as they evaluate potential candidates for the superintendent position. Additionally, these results will be instrumental for the new superintendent in identifying district priorities and developing a strategic plan.
