Noon Message to Families

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Cedar Hill Independent School District is experiencing a Fine Arts Renaissance!
The Cedar Hill High School Red Army Marching Band regularly wins competitions, one after another each year. Last fall, they won a National Show Band Competition under the direction of Derrick Walker, one of the few Class 6A Fine Arts Directors who doubles as the band director.
In addition to their success in competitions, the Red Army Marching Band entertains fans on every Friday night in the fall. The Red Army is the largest and most visible Fine Arts organization in Cedar Hill ISD, but they are far from the only one.
The Cedar Hill Theatre Program has created and performed wonderful productions, under the direction of Bethany Kennedy, the 2021-2022 Cedar Hill ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. Cedar Hill Assistant Theatre Director Tianta Harrison is the 2023-2024 Cedar Hill High School Teacher of the Year.
Cedar Hill ISD’s Art Department was named a Texas Art Educators Association (TAEA) District of Distinction, and scholars have won competitions through Texas.
The Cedar Hill Highsteppers Dance Team, under the direction of Coach Mila McQueen, continues to win championships, both in Texas and around the nation.
Longhorn choirs and orchestras regularly win UIL Sweepstakes, both at the middle school and high school levels. At the elementary level, Cedar Hill ISD’s Fine Arts Program has a new home at High Pointe Elementary.
The district has a plan to start a Fine Arts Program at Bessie Coleman Middle School in 2026, so scholars who finish the fifth grade at High Pointe have a place to continue their Fine Arts track.
The success of these programs is due to the achievement, hard work and dedication of the scholars and educators.
The Longhorn Futures Committee (LFC) determined that there are several Fine Arts facilities needs in the district. The CHISD Board of Trustees considered their plans and placed these items on the May 4 CHISD Bond.
Among the items for consideration are the aforementioned Bessie Coleman Fine Arts Program, a renovation of the current High Pointe Fine Arts Program, a performance stage for the Collegiate Academy & High School/Dr. Peggy M. Wilson STEM Center as well as lighting, sound and seating upgrades at the CHHS Performing Arts Center (PAC).
We encourage the citizens to consider these projects, as scholars involved in extracurriculars such as Fine Arts benefit academically, socially and emotionally in their lives.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Cedar Hill ISD
HOW MUCH TEACHER INPUT WAS USED IN THE DESIGN OF SPACES?
Faculty and campus leadership are consulted throughout the planning, design and construction process. Designs are further informed by research into advances in teaching and learning. New ways of teaching and learning call for new spaces and vice versa. The cycle of feedback and training is ongoing to ensure spaces meet the needs of students and teachers and also to make sure students and teachers have the training and support they need to use the spaces as they are designed

Navigating the Path to Graduation: Understanding Texas High School Requirements
As we approach a critical juncture in your child's academic journey, it's essential to have a clear understanding of the Texas high school graduation requirements. Planning for graduation is an ongoing process that begins in 8th grade and must be monitored closely through 12th grade.
Credit Requirements: In the state of Texas, students must earn a minimum of 22 credits to graduate. These credits are distributed across various subject areas, including English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and additional elective courses.
Endorsement Options: High school students have the opportunity to select an endorsement, which represents a specialized area of study. There are five endorsement areas: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Business and Industry, Public Services, Arts and Humanities, and Multidisciplinary Studies. Choosing an endorsement allows students to tailor their education to align with their career interests.
STAAR Assessments: Successful completion of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams is a crucial component of meeting graduation requirements. Students must pass specified assessments in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies to graduate.
Importance of Staying On Track:
College and Career Readiness: Meeting graduation requirements ensures that your child is prepared for post-secondary education and future career opportunities. It opens doors to college admissions, scholarship opportunities, and vocational training programs.
Ensuring a Smooth Transition: Staying on track with graduation requirements ensures a smooth transition from high school to the next phase of your child's life. Whether they choose higher education, vocational training, or entering the workforce or military enlistment, meeting these requirements sets a solid foundation for success.
Flexibility and Options: Understanding the graduation requirements allows your child to explore various academic pathways. With the flexibility of endorsements, students can align their coursework with their passions and interests, enhancing their overall high school experience.
Key Dates and Milestones:
Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) Meetings: Stay engaged in the academic planning process by attending Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings with your child's school counselor. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss progress, set goals, and ensure your child is on the right track.
STAAR Testing Dates: Be aware of STAAR testing dates and ensure your child is adequately prepared. Successful performance on these assessments is crucial for meeting graduation requirements. Regular communication with teachers and counselors can provide additional support.
College and Career Exploration Events: Attend college and career exploration events organized by the school. These events offer valuable insights into various post-secondary options and help students make informed decisions about their future.
Parental Involvement:
Maintain regular communication with teachers and school counselors. Stay informed about your child's academic progress, attendance, and any potential challenges they may be facing.
Encourage your child to set academic and career goals. Discussing future aspirations helps them stay focused and motivated to meet graduation requirements.
Attend workshops or informational sessions organized by the school to gain a deeper understanding of graduation requirements and the resources available to support your child's success.
As we collectively guide our students towards a successful graduation, we appreciate your partnership in this important journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's school.
Here's to a future filled with achievements and bright possibilities!

Behind every successful school district is an engaged community dedicated to supporting schools. Throughout Cedar Hill, businesses, community partners, parents and volunteers dedicate their time and resources to assist schools and help students succeed.
To recognize these dedicated supporters, CHISD is announcing the Community Partner of the Year and the Volunteer of the Year, which will be presented at our Leadership and Service Awards to an individual or group for selflessly supporting the school system.
We are fortunate to live in a community where so many people care deeply about our children, educators and schools! We recognize that our community partners are essential to moving our school district forward and helping students succeed. This program is just one way we can recognize some of those who are dedicated to making a difference every day.
