The Weekly Update #4
September 24th, 2024
Dear Parents,
Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to support the 4th grade PTO Halloween party. The event was outstanding, the weather perfect, and the children had an absolute blast. This was another example of how our volunteers make things better at Bogert - thank you!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held on November 14 (evening) and 15. By now, all parents should have signed up for a slot. If you missed the sign-up, please email your child's teacher ASAP so we can get you scheduled.
Your children may have mentioned, "Smartpass" to you. Bogert Elementary School recently implemented SmartPass, a digital hallway pass system. This replaces traditional sign out sheets that students used in order to leave the classroom. Using the SmartPass app on a school device, students create their own digital pass to use the bathroom, go to the water fountain, or go to other locations in the building such as the office, school counselor, nurse or greeter. Benefits of SmartPass include greater school security, student accountability, reduction in misbehaviors, and maximizing classroom instructional time. We believe SmartPass can have a positive impact on your child’s school experience, ensuring a better environment for all.
As always, please contact me with any questions or if there's something you'd like to discuss.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kaplan
Sincerely,

Thank you, USREF!
The Upper Saddle River Education Foundation recently awarded several grants to the three schools, and Bogert was fortunate enough to be the recipient of three!
- A clay pugger for the art program
- An app to help special education students receive feedback on reading aloud and reading comprehension
- The funding of a Leo Club, an affiliate of the Lion's Club
None of these would have been possible without the financial support of the USREF, and we sincerely thank them for their fundraising efforts and generosity.
Physical Education & Health Update
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We are excited to share that the school year is off to a fantastic start in our PE classes. Your child will participate in PE and/or Health every other day throughout the school year. To ensure a safe and productive experience in PE class, please note that students are required to wear rubber-soled shoes that provide adequate ankle support, either with laces or velcro fastenings. Boots and shoes such as Crocs, sandals, flip-flops, or any footwear that lacks proper foot and ankle support are not permitted. Students without appropriate footwear may be asked to sit out of class due to safety concerns. We kindly ask that you remind your child to wear comfortable clothing and the appropriate footwear on PE days.
At Bogert, we offer a diverse range of activities focused on fitness, sports, leisure, movement concepts, and team building. Our curriculum is designed to encourage students to explore new interests, helping them develop skills that promote lifelong health and fitness. Currently, we are starting our third unit of the year. After completing our playground games unit, we transitioned into team-building activities and are now just beginning our adventure unit. We are fortunate to have access to our outdoor adventure course, which was constructed six years ago. This course fosters positive communication and collaboration among students across all grade levels. Throughout this unit, students are actively enhancing their problem-solving and teamwork skills, working together to successfully complete challenges. During the last few weeks of October, we also prepared for the Kid’s Heart Challenge, which took place on October 21st. This initiative emphasized the importance of heart health while promoting the value of giving back to the community. We extend our sincere thanks for your ongoing support of this event.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us:

We look forward to a wonderful year and to working with your children!
Best regards,
The PE & Health Department

Leo Club
As mentioned earlier in the Bulletin, Bogert will be starting a Leo Club. Leo clubs provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities. They conduct various projects in the fields of health care, elders, children, disabled people, literacy and education, and self-development. Leos raise funds by conducting fund-raising projects and can conduct projects with other groups. The Saddle River Valley Lion's Club is sponsoring Bogert's Leo club.
If you are interested in having your child be a part of the Leo club, please fill out this form by Thursday, November 14.
School Photos
We anticipate sending home the school photos on Friday, so check the backpacks. The distribution is taking a little longer than normal because the photos didn't arrive sorted by class, so we need to manually do that. If, once you receive your photos, you don't like your child's smile or outfit or hair, it's ok! Retakes will be held on the 14th! 😃
