Chatfield Olympic Day: June 7, 2024
Olympics and Middle School Tribal Wars are this week!
The weather forecast is looking rainy, but we are full steam ahead for Olympics XXVII! Students will start the day in their homeroom and then proceed with a parade and opening ceremonies around 9am. Games and events will fill the day with lunch sessions beginning around 11am. The day will conclude at 2:30.
Students should wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle. They should wear their Olympic shirt and shoes that are appropriate for running and for the possibility of getting dirty. Elementary students may wish to bring a towel for the end of day water activity.
Families are asked to send in a dish/dessert from the country their child is representing. This is something that you and your child could prepare together. Parents are asked to deliver these items to the gymnasium on the morning of Olympic Day. The kitchen will not be open for food preparation, so please send in your items ready to serve. As an example, if you bake a cake, please have it sliced so that it can be served easily. Please mark the item with the country it represents. If you want your serving dish back, please make sure your name is clearly marked on it and pick it up at the end of the day. We will have some ability to refrigerate items, but not a lot. We will do our best. There will be some plugs available for parents that want to bring food in a crockpot.
Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided by the school. Volunteers that are running an Olympic station (in the morning or afternoon) may eat with their children. All other guests must wait until all of the middle school students have been served before getting their lunch (around 12:15).
Please talk with your child about being a good sport and showing kindness to everyone! The purpose of Olympic games is to compete as good sports and to support every participant. Also encourage your child to have an attitude of gratefulness. Teachers, staff, and many volunteers work hard to make Olympics a special day for everyone. Showing and expressing thankfulness is an important quality we want all Chatfield students to demonstrate.
Summer Reading Plans
This summer there are many ways to help your child avoid the summer slide and keep their reading skills on par for the coming school year!
Chatfield is participating in a new program called Kids Read Now! Students entering grades 1 through 5 will recieve a free book in the mail each week. Each book is free. We encourage families to download the KidsReadNow app and log the student's books at www.kidsreadnow.org. See attached flier for details.
Additionally, each student entering k-8 will have a summer reading book to read over the course of the summer. Please encourage your child to enjoy this book and you may want to read it together.
Kids Read Now App
Parents of students entering grades 1-5, please be sure to download the Kids Read Now App on your phone or tablet and log your child's reading as they recieve their books. Students earn prizes by logging their books!
