The CHPS Update E-Newsletter will be sent out bi-weekly throughout the summer instead of every Thursday. Weekly newsletters will begin the week prior to the school year starting.
Head Out to the Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade Tomorrow - Friday, June 27
The CHPS School Board, CHPS Employee of the Year (Jason Kuhlman), Columbia Heights Local #710 Teacher of the Year (Jennifer Cahill), the CHHS Alumni of Distinction (Trevor Major), and our Hylander Activities Department, along with high school athletes, will be in the parade handing out stickers and temporary tattoos!
Adventure Club Registration for 2025-2026 School Year is Open!
Registration opened on June 23, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year. Adventure Club programming facilitates a variety of activities to promote learning beyond the classroom including arts & crafts, guided group time, themed activities, dramatic play, cooking, games, outdoor play, science and more for Kindergarten-5th graders at Highland Elementary, North Park School for Innovation and Valley View Elementary!
Hours:
- 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Regular School Days
- 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Non-School Days (weekdays)
Dates:
- Summer Adventure Club ends on Thursday, August 21st
- Adventure Club during the school year will begin September 2nd

North Park School for Innovation is hiring an Adventure Club Supervisor and Assistant
Adventure Club is an extended day child care program for Columbia Heights Public Schools students in Kindergarten through 5th grade at each of our elementary schools.
Adventure Club Supervisor:
- Hours: 1:30-6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
- Pay: $23.36 per hour
- Under the direction of the Adventure Club Coordinator and/or Community Education Director, the Adventure Club Supervisor is responsible for providing a safe, healthy, creative and caring environment for school aged children in a program in which students can grow and develop.
Adventure Club Assistant:
- Hours: 2:00-5:45 p.m., Monday-Friday
- Pay: $16.54 per hour
- The Adventure Club Assistant works as part of a team to supervise school-age children in Kindergarten through 5th grade and provide age-appropriate, interesting activities for after school hours.

Adult Enrichment Classes - Summer 2025
Quick Pickled Veggies - Make & Take Class
Pickling is an ancient technique for preserving food for a long period of time! With this basic pickling recipe, you will learn how to prepare a variety of vegetables! Join CHPS Agriculture Specialist, Melissa Trent, in harvesting fresh vegetables from our school garden and pickling them. You will make and take a 12-oz jar of vegetables of your choice, including radishes, beets, cucumbers, beans, or carrots. You will also learn about different herbs and spices that can change the taste of your pickled veggies!

Knitting 101 - Learn the Basics Stitch by Stitch
Curious about knitting but not sure where to start? This beginner-friendly class, taught by Katie Cassidy, is the perfect introduction to the relaxing and creative world of knitting. Whether you’ve never picked up a pair of needles or need a refresher on the basics, this course will guide you through foundational techniques in a supportive, hands-on environment. You’ll learn how to choose the right yarn and needles, how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, and learn how to fix common mistakes! By the end of class, you will walk away with the skills and confidence to start your own knitting journey!
Yarn and needles are provided and included in the cost of the class. You will be taking home your own needles and the project you work on over the two class days. $35 for two sessions and materials are included.
This class will be on Monday, July 14th and Monday, July 21st, from 7:00-8:00 p.m., both days in the CHPS Family Center.
Summer Simple Syrups - Make & Take
Learn how to turn seasonal garden ingredients into delicious, versatile, simple syrups in this hands-on, beginner-friendly class! We’ll explore the art of infusing and preserving fresh flavors using juneberries, lemon balm, sour cherries, and mint—perfect for adding a local twist to your favorite beverages, desserts, or even salad dressings.
In this class, CHPS Ag Specialist Melissa Trent will teach you how to prepare and store syrups, experiment with flavor combinations, and take home recipes (and a few sweet samples!) that celebrate the unique tastes of the season. These will be fantastic for your teas, lemonades and other fun summer drinks! All materials provided. Come ready to taste, create and enjoy!

"Parent & Me" Yoga
Come and join us for a fun and engaging class designed for parents and children to bond, move, and play together! Through cyclic yoga, mindful movement, breath work, and storytelling, we explore how to: connect with our bodies and breath, learn simple stress management techniques through play, cultivate mindfulness in a fun and interactive way, and enjoy creative games, stories, and movement with Yogilli (the playful yoga doll)! Please bring a yoga mat if you have one! We will have some on hand.
This sessions will take place out by Blooming Heights Garden behind the CHPS Family Center. 1440 49th Ave, NE, Columbia Heights, MN.

Sports Physical for all Athletics
Every athlete participating in school-year sports must have a physical on file with the Activities Office. Student Athletes cannot register for the upcoming season without a sports physical on file. Sports physicals are valid for three years. 25-26 Sports Physical Form

Current Openings in Mini Adventures
Mini Adventures is a four-star Parent Aware child care program for children ages 36 months to 5 years old. In Mini Adventures, your child will participate in a variety of activities, including mathematics, guided group time, literacy, dramatic play, music, games, outdoor play, arts & crafts, movement and more! Early Childhood Screening is required for all participants. Independent toileting is required for children before participating.
Hours, Dates, Locations & Fees:
- 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. weekdays, year-round at the CHPS Family Center (closed June 19 and June 30-July 4)
- Weekly program fee for 5 days a week = $323
- Weekly program fee for 4 days a week = $273
- Weekly program fee for 3 days a week = $215
- Weekly program fee for 2 days a week = $152
- Weekly program fee for 1 day a week = $77
- `Plus a $25 registration fee for new registrations only
- This fee includes breakfast, lunch and a snack. We accept County Child Care Assistance and Pathways I scholarships. Pathways II scholarships may be available for those who qualify.

Columbia Heights Police Department Bike Rodeo
Join the CH Police Department and Recreation for a fun-filled Bike Rodeo! The goal of this event is to teach kids the importance of bike safety in a safe-enclosed riding area. Your child will learn Bike safety, traffic rules, pedestrian safety, helmet fitting, and more, all from CH Police! Kids will get to try different skill-building stations and an obstacle course. Later, they will ride around Huset Park with a police car escort and enjoy tasty treats. Child must have experience and basic riding skills/training wheels are okay. Kids are encouraged to bring their own bikes; we will have a limited supply of bikes and helmets for use from the MN Bicycle Alliance.
- Parents must stay for younger riders or newer bike riders who might need help.
- Ages 7-14 years old
- Saturday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- FREE but registration is required

CH Athletic Boosters Annual Golf Tournament
The Columbia Heights Athletic Boosters' Annual Golf Tournament will be on Tuesday, July 15 at 12:00 p.m. at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake (701 Bunker Lake Blvd. NE, Ham Lake, MN 55304).
- 18 Hole Scramble Format - Shotgun start
- Dinner provided immediately following the tournament
- Cost: $125.00 per person
- Includes tournament, cart, range, balls, refreshments, awards and dinner
- Grill lunch, mulligans and fun games on the course available for purchase

- Jump and jive into this Jamboree Dance Camp and learn a parade-friendly dance routine. Dancers will practice the routine, tie-dye a t-shirt, and perform in the Jamboree parade with Recreation on Fri, June 27. Jamboree Parade starts at 6 pm. Dancers will end at Murzyn Hall back parking lot.
