Topper Up!
Topper families,
Sunshine brings with it Vitamin D and Vitamin D increases happiness. Let's soak in as much as we can! It was great to welcome back our students after a long, long weekend and although they were tired walking in the door on Thursday, they met the challenge and increased their knowledge.
I am sure many students struggled with the lack of routine on our cold days...if that was your child, check out these recommendations if you need them on an upcoming long weekend:
- Pick something to do for the first 30-60 minutes after you wake up.
- Pick one activity that you WANT to do, but first do the activity you've selected that you HAVE to do.
- Schedule your evening in 30 minute chunks of time, as you'll likely be a little bored by this time of the day.
Family Support & Homework Night is 1/30! Check out the information below.
And to close, there is a lot of PTO information - thanks for reading it and engaging with our Parent-Teacher group.

Supporting First Responders in California (Goods Drive Extended to 1/31)
Set our hearts on fire for first responders
As we all know, California is facing tragic fires, and our CMS Student Council is determined to support the brave first responders. After reaching out to various law enforcement and emergency teams, we’ve identified specific items they need. We invite each homeroom/flex to join in a friendly competition to bring in the most donations, with the winning class receiving a gift certificate for each student to King Kone. The drive has been extended and runs through January 31,due to our recent cold days. Let’s come together and show our gratitude for the heroes who put their lives on the line for others.
Thank you,
Miss O’Brien and CMS Student Council

January 30 is Family Support & No Homework Night!
This month's Sources of Strength focus has been all about Family Support. By understanding the incredibly protective source of family support, we can help to increase this strength in our lives. Ask your child about what they have discussed in class and how they explored their family support with hands-on activities.
On "No Homework Night" it is our hope that you will have more time to connect with each other at home. On 1/30, a take-home family support activity sheet will be posted to your child's grade-level google classroom. You are invited to connect over the activities and/or to come up with your own. There are so many positive ways you can connect as a family, we can't wait to hear what you choose to do!
And next week look for a Google Form from Mr. Caroff asking families to share what you did on this night as a family! Your ideas will be posted in the next newsletter!!
NEW Message from Ms. Jenn in the CMS Clinic
Hello Parents/guardians
Please review with your child proper cough etiquette and good handwashing
We have a couple of cases of the FLU in the school as well as RSV
As an FYI for covid, we no longer quarantine, isolate, or have to wear a mask. We can be at school as long as fever-free for 24 hrs and have no use of Tylenol or Motrin 24 hrs before coming back as well.
Any questions please call me
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

Arrival and Pick-up Reminders
Thank you very much for abiding by the following expectations for a safe arrival and afternoon dismissal process. Morning drop off has been going really well. Thank you to everyone who has been getting their students to school on time and following our traffic pattern. Please remember that there is only one lane in the morning in front of the school, and this must be adhered to for everyone's safety. Also, please be patient with our teachers who are pulling into their spots and crossing the street. We want all to report to work safely.
We need your help to improve afternoon pick up and the following items will help us achieve that as safely as possible:
- Parents are not permitted to park in the lot and have their child cross traffic to come to them. Please join the traffic line. It is unsafe for your child to run across the lot. Supervision occurs by our staff, but as you know it is a small footprint with many moving parts. We have come close to students being hit by cars and absolutely want to avoid this occurring.
- There are 2 lanes of traffic in the front of CMS in the afternoon but 1 lane in front of the board office. Please do not double park by the CMS office or the BOE building. Generally Ms. Paroubek is directing traffic, and she will only direct you to an open spot in a single lane. She never intends for you to make a 2nd lane in front of the board office. This creates a dangerous traffic situation.
- If you are going to change lanes, please look before you do. Several instances of near sideswiping have occurred.
- Always look for children before stepping on the gas pedal (in front, on the sides, and behind you).
When everyone slows down and follows the procedures and traffic monitors, traffic will move smoothly, faster, and safely.
Have you joined our CMS PBIS rewards yet?
During the first week of school, all families received personalized QR codes to join PBIS rewards to see your student's information as it relates to positive behavior choices in the building. If you have not joined yet, please consider doing so by scanning the code you received and signing up to receive notifications.
If you need another QR code, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or Ms. Paroubek to access another copy.
Thanks for partnering with us on this new system!
