A Few Reminders
As much as I appreciate our student's entrepreneurial skills, students cannot sell things on campus. In the past few weeks, we've stopped students from selling items from candy to Pokemon cards. The biggest issue that it opens up students to theft because they have a bunch of cash...so remind your students that they cannot sell things at school.
Also - as the temperatures go down, this is our annual reminder that blankets are not allowed at school. We know it's cold, but blankets bring sanitary issues as well as behavior issues...so wear a sweatshirt and keep the blankets at home...thank you! If you know of any student that needs cold weather gear, please let me know and we will get them taken care of!
We have been working with the students to create their own individual passwords to secure their Google classroom accounts. The process should be complete by early next week and that will help significantly.
Any questions, please let me know at eholt@lagovistaisd.net

Basketball Tips Off Their Season
LVMS Lady Viking Basketball tipped off the 24/25 season hosting Lampasas this past Wednesday evening.
7A
Our Lady Vikings came out to hustle against a respectable Bager squad. Coming out the gates strong on defense, our Lady Vikings didn’t make it easy for the Badgers to get in any type of rhythm. Starting with great dribble penetration defense led by Danni Tristan, Sienna Todd, Scarlett Wright, Eva Navarro, and Sofia McKinnon locking down the dribble up top followed by Sadie Blakey and Autumn Clements bringing all types of early Thanksgiving stuffing (blocks) down low. On offense, it was a game of cat and mouse as the Lady Vikings moved the ball keeping the defense in chase. The hot hand of the night came from Ashlynn Evans who poked holes in the defense all over the court scoring most of the Lady Vikings points. Success in crashing the boards and grabbing rebounds were led by Bennett Buster and Lillian Kamenzind keeping the ball alive on offense.
With relentless pursuit of the ball, our Lady Vikings never missed a moment to stop the Badgers. Our girls took home a victory with a score of 20-8 in their maiden voyage on the hardwood!

The Lady Vikings hosted their first game of the season against Lampasas. In a dominant performance, Aubrey Alves won the opening jump ball and set the tone early with a quick layup by Brooke Viruette. The team took the lead right from the start and never looked back, maintaining control throughout the game. Brooke Viruette led the scoring with 16 points, while Gracyn Koncak, Evelyn Brown, and Liata Keehl each contributed 2 points apiece. The defense was also strong, holding the opposition to just 5 points as the team cruised to a 22-5 victory. This season our 7th grade B team consists of Aubrey Alves, Evelyn Brown, Summer Johnston, Liata Keehl, Gracyn Koncak, Maylee Leatham, Katy Macias, Victoria Porras, Sierra Smith and Brooke Viruette.

Lady Vikings opened their season with a good showing against a strong Badger squad from Lampasas. Ready for a tough game the Vikings came out fighting against the Badgers going point for point throughout the first quarter of the game. Playing good defense, limiting Lampasas offensive looks, while manufacturing several good looks of their own, the Vikings trailed just 21-16 after the first half of play. The Lady Vikings fell off the scoring pace a bit in the 3rd quarter but were still within shouting distance of the Badgers. While the girls would fail to catch Lampasas in the 4th quarter they still acquitted themselves quite well. The final score was Lampasas 41, Lago Vista 30. Not bad at all for the first game where quite honestly a lot of the team was getting their feel for the positioning,physicality, and ebbs and flows of a basketball game. Despite the defeat it was still a solid and encouraging start for the Lady Vikings. Members of this years 8A basketball squad are: #3 Brinkley Gold, #11, Kinsley Boyd, #12 Peyton Christensen, #14 Aislin Munoz, #15 Lauren Carpenter, #20 Lilah Culbreth, #24 Emma Luow, #25 Te’a Turner, #32 Stella Granger

The Lady Vikings hosted Lampasas in a tough matchup, ultimately falling 16-31. The team struggled to find their rhythm early, remaining scoreless until the second quarter. However, Sienna McGuire and Kinley Dean were able to break through Lampasas’ strong and tall defense, each finding a way to the basket. Aaliyah Aurthur and Stella Maxwell played aggressively on offense, drawing fouls and earning trips to the free-throw line. Molly Cortez was a key playmaker, effectively bringing the ball down the court and setting up the offense. She led the team with 4 points, matching Kinley Dean, who also added 4. Aaliyah Aurthur contributed 3 points, while Madison Hawes and Sienna McGuire each scored 2. Stella Maxwell rounded out the scoring with 1 point. Despite the loss, the Lady Vikings showed resilience and fought hard against a tough opponent. This season our 8th grade B team consists of Aaliyah Aurthur, Molly Cortez, Kinley Dean, Gracy Farjellah, Madison Hawes, Stella Maxwell, Sienna McGuire, Shelby Rospirim, Liana Stevens, and Ariana Yorek.

In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
