FAFSA Night at Franklin
We’re here to support you and your student on the journey to graduation and beyond!
Franklin High School will be hosting a FAFSA Application Assistance Night on Tuesday, February 11th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Cougar Central at our Main Campus.
What is FAFSA?
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s a free government form that helps determine a student’s eligibility for federal financial aid for college or career school. Completing the FAFSA is an important step in preparing for life after high school, and it’s also a graduation requirement for all seniors.
We encourage all seniors and their parents to join us for this event. Our team will be on hand to guide you through the process, answer your questions, and ensure the application is completed correctly.
Can’t make it?
If you’re unable to attend Franklin’s FAFSA Night, please refer to the flyer for information on other schools in the area offering FAFSA support.
If you have any questions before the event, feel free to contact Mr. Olivas at rolivas@episd.org.
We look forward to seeing you there and helping your student take this important step toward their future!

FSA ID Number - Who is considered a Parent?
We’re excited to remind you that the 2025-2026 FAFSA application will be available starting December 1, 2024! To complete the application, both students and parents will need to create an FSA ID, which is required to submit the FAFSA.
Now, who is considered a "parent" for FAFSA purposes? A parent is defined as a biological or adoptive parent, or a person legally recognized as a parent by the state (such as being listed on a birth certificate). Keep in mind that grandparents, foster parents, legal guardians, older siblings, and aunts or uncles are not considered parents on this form unless they have legally adopted the student.
Here are a few key points to remember:
- If your legal parents are living and married, you’ll need to provide information about both.
- If your legal parents are not married but live together, you’ll also include information about both.
- If your parents are divorced or separated, you’ll provide information about the parent you’ve lived with the most in the last 12 months.
- If your divorced or widowed parent has remarried, be sure to include your stepparent’s information as well.
We hope this clarifies things and helps you get ready for the FAFSA process! Please reach out if you have any questions—we’re here to help!
