Weekly Updates for Sherwood Parents
Principal's Message
Dear Sherwood Elementary Families,
Happy Fourth of July!
I can hardly believe it's almost time to kick off the 2024-2025 academic school year. I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer break so far.
June has been an incredible month with the SES SOAR Summer Academy. SOAR wrapped up on June 27th, and we're thrilled to report significant growth among our scholars. Our students in grades K-3 have advanced to higher categories on the mClass Progress Monitoring Assessment, and our 4th and 5th graders have reached new heights on the iReady assessment. We are immensely proud of our SOAR scholars and the remarkable progress they've achieved in such a short time.
Thank you, parents, for encouraging your scholars to attend SOAR every day! We could not have achieved this success without each of you.
Special thanks to our amazing Assistant Principal, Mr. Averett, whose leadership as the SOAR Admin was instrumental in making SOAR Academy such a big success. We also extend our gratitude to Mrs. Stratton and Mrs. Mack, the SOAR Admin interns, for their dedication and support. A heartfelt appreciation goes to Mrs. McCann, instructional coach, and all the classroom teachers for their hard work and commitment.
And of course, we cannot forget the invaluable contributions of the secretary, nurse, and custodians. Thank you all for your outstanding efforts and contributions to our success!
Welcome New SES Team Members
As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, we wanted to inform you of some notable staff changes that will take effect when we return in August. Mrs. Y. Phillips, our beloved kindergarten teacher, retired at the end of May after many years of dedicated service. Additionally, Mrs. K. Phillips' family has relocated, and Mrs. Lugo, our esteemed third-grade teacher, has accepted an EL Teacher position within the district. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of them for their contributions to our school community and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the SES family who will be joining us this fall: Abbie Reynolds and Qshounda Ware, who will both be teaching kindergarten; Brittany Christopher, who will be teaching second grade; and Sharina Sanders, who will be transitioning to a third-grade self-contained class. We are excited to have these talented educators join our team and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our students.
Student Registration
This is a reminder regarding our end-of-the-year assessments and goals. I am excited to announce that we met our school-wide end-of-the-year goals for iReady Reading and iReady Math. Our scholars and teachers worked extremely hard throughout the year to achieve these goals.
I am incredibly proud of every scholar, classroom teacher, and specialty area teacher for making these goals a reality and not just a dream.
Please go ahead and re-register your scholar if you have not already completed the registration process for returning scholars on or before July 14th. All scholars that are returning must be re-enrolled for the 2024-2025 academic school year. Our goal is to ensure we have all scholars in classrooms before Open House or the first day of school.
The cut-off date(July 14th ) for transportation on the first day of school. Late registrants may not have a bus assignment during the first 2 weeks of school
