PTA - REFLECTIONS (NEW POST!)
The theme for 2023-2024 is I am Hopeful Because…
Each year, students nationwide create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. Approaching its 55th year, this program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
Students submit their completed works of art in one or more of the arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. They participate in their grade division: Primary (Pre-K – Grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Special Artist (All grades welcome).
Students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 may enter in the Special Artist Division or grade division most closely aligned to their functional abilities.
Check out Illinoispta.org for more details on the program. Entry instructions and the due date will be posted here soon. Please contact Carolyn Neary at cmneary88@gmail.com with any questions.

As a Patton PTA member, you will have access to the Patton Student DirectorySpot App, which is useful for planning birthday parties, carpools, and playdates. The office is not allowed to divulge any private information and students are not allowed to hand out party invites at school so Directory Spot really is an incredibly handy app for you to have access to.
Your PTA membership gives you discounts at different retailers (see www.pta.org/benefits for details). You are also a member of the National PTA, which advocates for the safety, education, and well-being of our children.
Questions? Please e-mail ahpattonptamembership@gmail.com
ABSENCE MATTERS (FINAL POST)
We have definitely seen an increase in absences this past couple of weeks due to the seasonal bugs that like to rear their head at this time of the year! We really want our students to take the time they need to recover when they aren't feeling well but we also want to be proactive about sharing the importance of being in school and that every minute counts.
We are also seeing an uptick in students arriving late. We know sometimes these late arrivals cannot be avoided but, even a few minutes of tardiness can have a big impact on a students day of learning so, we would like to remind everyone that school starts promptly at 9.05am - this is the time we would like all Panthers to be in their seats and ready to start their day. Please try your best to ensure that your children are here iand ready to start their day at 9.05am.
SNACK TIME (2nd POST!)
Grades 1 through 5 are allowed to bring in a snack to enjoy during the school day. It is District 25 policy that snacks be limited to a fruit or a vegetable in its own skin. We kindly ask that you please do not send in any crackers, chips, cookies, etc for snack time. These items can be included with their lunch.
PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY (FINAL POST!)
We appreciate all of our drivers who have done an excellent job following the arrival and dismissal procedures. We are all adjusting to our new routines with construction this year, and we appreciate everyone’s patience, cooperation, and understanding. We would like to remind everyone to please adhere to traffic signs around the school.
A community member stopped by to share that he has noticed cars exiting our parking lot at a high speed going south on Patton Avenue and ignoring the stop sign that is at Patton Avenue and Maude. He was expressing concern due to the number of walkers and bikers he sees in the neighborhood. Please do note that there is a stop sign and please follow the speed limit. Some of our students and their younger siblings are small and may not be easily visible while you are driving. We have requested the support of the Arlington Heights Police Department to help monitor this area for safety and they have assisted us in putting in a request with the forestry department to trim any trees that may be impacting visibility of the stop sign. Thank you so much for helping to keep all our students safe.
Parents whose children are exiting Door 10, on Patton Avenue. Our crossing guard has shared that some students are choosing to cross in the middle of the street rather than walking to the corner and crossing with the assistance of the crossing guard. Please have a conversation with your children and remind them to cross only at the corner with the crossing guard. There is a huge shortage district-wide of crossing guards and we are very fortunate to have this intersection staffed.
For CAP parents who are dropping off or picking up close to our arrival and dismissal times, please be mindful that our parking lot is drive through only during arrival and dismissal to allow for a steady flow of traffic. Our traffic dismissal line typically finishes around 3:45. At that time we begin walking any remaining students inside to call home and check on their rides.
If you are picking up from CAP after 3:45, you are able to park and exit your vehicle as long as the pick up lane has cleared out. If you need to pick up your child before 3:45, please consider having them exit the building with the other students and picking them up in the car pick up lane. If it is a last-minute change, please know that you can call the front office, and we will relay the message to your child.
CAP Parents should also know that we do not allow access to other parts of our school when you are dropping off and picking up students. For the safety and security of the building and all students and staff, please only remain in the Commons area when dropping off and picking up. Students know that classrooms are not accessible to them before school and that after school they may only return for forgotten items until 3:45. After that the school building is not accessible to students and parents. Please encourage responsibility as we do the same at school.
NURSE'S CORNER (FINAL POST)
Hearing and Vision Screenings
We will be beginning the state required vision and hearing screenings. Hearing Screenings will take place for students in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Vision screenings will take place for students in K and 2nd, new to the district and those with IEPs. Please contact Chris Staniak (cstaniak@sd25.org) with any questions.
Student Health
