A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
The first few weeks of the 2024-2025 school year are behind us, and we are excited to continue building a strong foundation for a successful year. Settling into routines is essential for growth, and we appreciate your trust in us as we guide your child through their educational journey.
At Ladysmith Intermediate School, we remain dedicated to fostering an inclusive, compassionate, and supportive environment. Our core virtues—kindness, empathy, and respect—are at the heart of everything we do, along with our ongoing commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Every student’s unique contributions and experiences are valued here, and we aim to create a space where all learners feel empowered to succeed.
As we move forward, know that our team is here to support both you and your child every step of the way. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or thoughts. Together, we can make this year one of growth, learning, and memorable experiences for your child.
Huy'ch'qa,
Dionte Jelks

Message from Mr. G
Greetings LIS Families,
My name is Josh Grossgardt, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the Child, Youth, and Family Support Worker here at Ladysmith Intermediate School. In my role, I’m here to support students with their behavioral, social, and emotional needs, helping them navigate challenges so they can thrive both inside and outside of the classroom.
I also assist families in connecting with valuable community resources and supports that may benefit their children and households. Additionally, I manage our school’s lunch and snack programs, ensuring students have access to nutritious meals during the day.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about fishing and enjoy staying active through various sports. I look forward to working with you and supporting the success and well-being of your children.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need support. Please click on the button below to learn about the RAINBOWS program.
Warm regards,
Josh Grossgardt
It's that time of year again where we capture smiles, memories and milestones! Our annual School Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday September 18, 2024. This is an excellent opportunity to get individual photos taken, class and group photos will take place in spring 2025.
Open House
I am thrilled to announce that our annual Open House will be held on September 24, 2024, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers, tour the classrooms, and gain insight into the curriculum and activities planned for the year. We encourage you to mark this date on your calendars and make every effort to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
Terry Fox Run
I would like to bring your attention to the upcoming Terry Fox Run, which will be taking place on Thursday September 26, 2024. This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to honor Terry Fox's legacy and contribute to a noble cause. We encourage all families to participate and help us raise funds for cancer research. Your generosity and active involvement will undoubtedly inspire our students and instill in them the values of compassion and empathy. Don't forget to bring a loonie or toonie this week!
School Forms & eConsent
You should have received your child's Student Verification form on Monday and Student Consent, Student Emergency and Cloud Consent (permission to use Google/Internet) via email. I kindly ask that you please complete and/or return forms no later than Tuesday, September 17th.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the office.
Flag Football Season
Thank you to Mr. Bown for coaching the LIS flag football team this fall. Our Tigers are excited to reclaim a banner this year. All home games will take place on LIS grass field on 3rd Ave. Please stay tuned for a schedule.
Parent Advisory Committee

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
