The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Can you believe that we are only two weeks away from the last day of school? The 2023-24 school year has flown by so quickly! While school will wind down for summer, there will be plenty of activities happening here during June and July. I want to encourage everyone to
take a look atLa Porte ISD's Summer Camps & Activities page, where we have a growing list of fun summer events for your student to enjoy.
I also encourage you to join us this Wednesday, May 8 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus for our Summer Launch, a "one-stop shop" for summer camp and athletics registrations, and the Annual Student Update (which includes registration for returning students for the 2024-25 school year). In addition to free pizza and Kona Ice, the Summer Launch will include plenty of fun, including a petting zoo, bounce house, face painting, a flight simulator and more. This event is one that you don't want to miss.
Meanwhile, La Porte ISD is nationally recognized for our music education, and we still have several end-of-year performances over the next couple of weeks. Please consider attending a concert or two. Our students are very impressive in their performances. You will very quickly realize why our music program has received such prestigious accolades.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- A mega shout-out to our La Porte High School seniors. As of this past week, they had earned $1.4 million in college scholarships and 43 associate degrees through our partnership with San Jacinto College. Those associate degrees, by the way, are valued at $9,500 each, and they come at no cost to La Porte parents.
- Another huge shout-out to the 12 student-athletes who signed national letters of intent this past week to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level.
- Speaking of student-athletes, Aryssa Rodriguez has secured her place among La Porte's all-time greats. As a junior, she placed sixth on Friday in the UIL State Track & Field Championships in the 300-meter hurdles. Wow!
- The La Porte Bulldogs Baseball Team wrapped up another successful playoff-bound season this weekend. We are all very proud of them for continuing a tradition and legacy of excellence.
- Finally, kudos to our students, teachers and other instructional staff members, campus and district administrative teams, parents — and everyone else — for another successful STAAR testing season. The state uses the results to grade our schools and district, but this test does not define our students' abilities. I am grateful for your collaborative efforts, which are crucial in our continued success.
Thank you for all that you do. I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Help us reach our reading goal
We are getting closer to our goal of 1.5 million districtwide reading minutes for the school year (We are currently at 1.103 million minutes). If everyone will read 20 min each day and log that in Beanstack, we will far exceed our goal. Let's work together to achieve this milestone. Remember that readers are leaders!
